Great local place. Service and food was great as usual. I took my wife and family for her birthday and they surprised her with a nice piece of birthday cake and extra wines on the house. a very nice touch.

The service was very poor. On arrival waited 2 minutes before sighting any waiter or manager. The waiter was consistently over-chatty and intruded on the dinner I was having with my elderly father with inappropriate and unwanted conversation. He was slow on water top ups. Friendliness is fine from a waiter but he did not read my cues to leave the social side of the evening to his customers.

About Vasko Restaurant

An Italian Affair It’s a family affair at Vasko Restaurant in Ivanhoe. Vasko Dzanovski and his family bring passion and craft to the plate in this intimate Italian restaurant. Vasko Restaurant serves lunch and dinner in an inviting, stay-awhile atmosphere that lures you to linger over just one more glass of wine. The menu is minimal but well executed. Don’t pass up the classic bruschetta to start. You may have had bruschetta heaps of times, but patrons rave about the Vasko version. For an entrée you might delve into marinated and grilled octopus with a fresh radish and fennel salad, or perhaps chargrilled asparagus with roasted pancetta. The fresh and lively pastas and risottos include a mushroom, zucchini and spinach risotto topped with sage and white truffle oil, or delicate homemade ricotta gnocchi with a touch of pesto on a bed of Napoli. You can order from the grill too, taking your pick of the fish of the day, pork belly or “The Balkan” — a family specialty with pork and veal. Flavours are full here and the atmosphere is just right for good conversation. Did we mention the loukoumades? They’re a traditional Greek-style donut served with vanilla ice cream. Definitely worth a try. Best dish: Pork belly with crackling
