LOVE Amir, what a great guy. My boyfriend and I came here spontaneously on a Monday night, and were pleasantly surprised by how great an experience we had. The Owl House is just a street away from where we live, so it has always been on the list to visit. Amir was warm and very friendly, a guy who just knew his stuff - food and drinks wise. My love enjoyed his pork belly dish, and my steak was spot on! HIGHLY recommend the croquettes as a starter, filled with melt in your mouth prices of beef, and a perfect crunchy outside! We'll be back for sure!

lovely cosy venue with great wine and cocktail selection . The only negative are portion sizes a little small and drink prices a little high

Innovative approach for degustation having paired wine or cocktails - which you can select for each dish The tastes and combinations of the food were explosions in the mouth and paired perfectly with both the wine and cocktails. The owner and sommelier (Amir) was passionate about perfection and you can tell. The chef is talented and when we spoke to him outside when we were leaving he was so modest and grateful that we made the effort to thank him. It is very noisy and small - but not intrusive. We will be back.

Such a shame, I loved this restaurant the first time I came. Service was shockingly bad. They were obviously under staffed, but really no excuse as did book a week in advance. They tried to make up for the very slow service, forgotten orders and stone cold meals with free drinks and desserts and several apologies, which was very appreciated. But really, the damage was done.

The cocktails were amazing, as was the service. Am already planning a return visit. Only potential downside was the size-- I imagine upstairs could get quite loud/ hot if it was at full capacity

About The Owl House

Have a hoot of a time Behind an unassuming red terrace door, on the Darlinghurst end of Crown Street, lies a neighbourhood watering hole that makes drinking at the ‘wrong’ end of Crown Street a much more pleasant affair. Downstairs, happy patrons crowd around the long narrow bar sipping cocktails under the oversized, naked light bulbs. Mingling with others, or even with owners Amir Halpert and Paul Loulli is not uncommon at this compact eatery so be prepared for bar banter and story trading if you enter this little local. Bar snacks such as smoked bone marrow and oxtail croquettes, and marinated Sicilian olives go down a treat. Or you can choose to dine upstairs on the second level, where things are a little more diner-friendly, and not such a tight squeeze. The best seats in the house are unquestionably up on the intimate balcony, which seats a party of four. But no matter where you sit at The Owl House, you’re sure to have one hoot of a time. Hoot, hoot! Best dish: smoked bone marrow and oxtail croquette
