Steaks were overrated. Use to be an awesome restaurant -too commercialised now. Seating is packed in like sardines -table of 4 and we could hardly hear each other. Wine was $80 for a $35 bottle at local Bottle O.

Had an amazing graduation dinner, given our own private room and were allowed to extend the time as we were having so much fine! Staff very helpful, extensive drinks collection! Loved it!!!!

Well my date did not show, but the vibe of teh place meant that I felt very comfortable to change the planned lunch to a lunch for one. Staff were exceptional and the wine was excellent!

The Meat and Wine Company Hawthorn East is part of a chain, but despite this serves some of the consistently best steaks in town. The chips are also great, as was the Greek salad. Service is efficient and pleasant, and the ambiance is casual but reasonably up-market. The prices for the steaks are very fair for the quality, and lunch special is good value.

Amazing every time I go there. It was my dads birthday, and they put candles on the dessert we purchased and had happy birthday written in icing on the plate. Our waiter was exceptional, she came out singing and the whole room joined in. What an amazing experience

About The Meat & Wine Co Hawthorn East

Paddock to plate Popping up out of the old English, Scottish and Australia bank, a heritage-listed beauty on Camberwell junction, The Meat & Wine Co of East Hawthorn offer up a sophisticated steakhouse dining experience in the heart of old Melbourne. This one’s for the serious meat lover, with all the classic steak and rib options on offer. The Portuguese prawns and beef Carpaccio are good starters but it’s when the short rib steak arrives before you, having slow cooked for eight hours, you know they mean business. So serious are the folks at The Meat & Wine Co about their dishes, that beef is sourced exclusively from Monte Beef, the producers of some of Australia’s finest Angus Beef. A gorgeous range of sauces will keep even the biggest sceptic in check (watch out for that African Hot Chilli), and there’s plenty more alternatives on the menu too, such as their lamb shanks, flame-grilled skewers and even kangaroo – why not? And with three more locations on the east coast, this swish, modern take on the humble steakhouse is catching on. Best dish: short rib steak
