Top-notch personable and discreet service with a winsome Japanese wine list. We didn't adore the Japanese-style food options, but on the whole, there were only a handful of "above-average" dishes and the chef had a heavy hand on shoyu.

About Lilotang Japanese

Canberra's hip Japanese eatery LiloTang is the brainchild of Po Yang Chia and Josiah Li - a “kaiseki meets izakaya”. In Japanese Kaiseki is the name given to a style of fine dining Japanese food in which dishes are served in sequence, usually degustation style; Izakayas on the other hand are working class casual diners. LiloTang is a blend of both, serving intriguing Japanese food in a relaxed setting. Located in the Burbury Hotel, the restaurant is slick with pale timber walls illuminated by strip lighting and lemon-yellow pops of colour. Semi private dining areas are created by hanging timber panels with cut outs - giving you a touch of privacy if required, with views of the courtyard in the hotel. The menu consists of many tasty Japanese morsels like yakitori skewers, tuna sashimi and duck breast sukiyaki with tempura egg, with many dishes cooked on the impressive robata grill. Desserts like the Houji tea smooth pudding with candied sweet potato will keep your taste buds intrigued - as will the selection of over twenty five boutique Japanese sakes. There’s much to love about this trendy Japanese eatery. Best dish: chargrilled wagyu sirloin with herb miso
