Hidden gastropub gem - don't be fooled by Collingwood's rough charm - the back dining room and kitchen is worth it.

Service was good, the waiter was very helpful with wine selection. The ambient candle light & open fires are lovely, although the restaurant was cold & we had to keep our coats on. The steak special was excellent, spaghetti marinara was good and the lamb was ok (served on an eggplant puree which was delicious, but cold which jarred a bit with the hot dish). The deserts were disappointingly flavorless. The hand dryer in the ladies toilets is permanently broken & the cubicles are falling apart with one section being held together by a g-clamp! Not classy.

It was very loud and not conducive to any talking - we were a group of six and were looking forward to catching up on each other's news, but we could not hear each other; we left straight after we ate and looked for somewhere quieter for coffee and desert. Service also slow

Dinner at the Grace Darling was actually one of the best meals out I think I've ever had. The food was delicious, our waiter was funny and attentive without being over the top and the atmosphere was great.

Great lunch, great price and the service was good too. For some reason the undercover area at the back had aircon on at arctic temperatures! We had to move a couple of times but everything else was great 👍🏼

Good food and drinks

Our party of three very much enjoyed the food and wine, the pork belly was the star dish and we'll be back for that! The service however was a little patchy with some waiting staff being very good and others not so good. The music was a little too loud for our group members who were catching up and had a lot to talk about.

About Grace Darling

Row Ya Boat This mainstay of Melbourne’s pub scene has an incredible history. It all started in 1954 when the pub was erected to honour a home-grown heroine: little Grace, the daughter of a lighthouse keeper, paddled out to sea in the middle of a storm to rescue nine drowning sailors. Since then, the historic bluestone building has been home to Collingwood Football Club. But that’s all ancient history now, with The Grace Darling renowned locally as a Smith Street favourite. Inside, the cute sailing ship wallpaper pays homage to the pub’s namesake, and the polished floorboards give it that colonial touch. Sit outside in the ever-popular beer garden and enjoy classic pub grub. In typical Fitzroy fashion, everything on the menu is sustainably sourced and as local as possible – all except for the great range of international wines and beers of course! But The Grace Darling does one thing that other pubs don’t – takeaway fish and chips all day long. You just can’t beat this Collingwood darling. Best dish: baked ricotta gnocchi
