The meals could definitely be a little smaller - they're big meals!

Marble our waitress was a gem. Love being taken by my interstate friends. A real treat.

I'm disappointed to say that it was not the best experience. I booked the lunch to celebrate a friends birthday and noted this with my booking. Not sure if anyone reads the booking information, because none of the staff made mention, not even when I did when the drinks were being poured. We were met but not greeted by a waitress.. we all felt that the service was poor, given that it was not a busy day. We had to keep summoning staff for drinks and plate removal, more water and even to ask for coffees. Three of the party did not enjoy their meals..the pork dish was too rich and salty..like the chef just poured a bottle over..absolutely awful! I doubt the chef tasted the finished meal before it was served. The lunch special "salmon" was served on a mash which once again was too heavy and spicy..certainly not suitable with delicate salmon. Our coffees were absolutely tasteless..Gino Merlo would be horrified, given his name is plastered over the cups. I picked up a coffee at his Paddington cafe last week, so I know what a good coffee tastes like. Gips has always been a great place to meet with friends to talk over good food and wine. Sadly, this time it didn't turn out that way. Thanks for the opportunity to share some of our story.

They had a function at the same time, so you could tell they were very busy, but the staff did their best to keep the customers happy

About Gip's Restaurant

Relax in the beautiful garden on a sunny afternoon. At home in Toowoomba’s most historical building, Clifford House, Gip’s Restaurant was named after the historical owner’s much loved dog. You’ll immediately feel the peace and quiet in the beautiful garden courtyard at Gip’s. On a chilly day, head into the restaurant for a casual yet sophisticated dining experience. Open from breakfast to dinner, visit Gip’s at any time of day for a catch up with friends or quiet dinner with your partner. The menu is diverse and generous with hearty dishes from Bunya pork belly to beef cheeks served with caramelised onion risotto. The atmosphere at Gip’s is not one that can be easily replicated. Best dish: Roast Grimaud duck breast served with smoked sweet potato, brussel sprouts, speck, walnuts and sour cherry compote.
