Our second visit and we had an excellent 3 course meal and bottle of wine and our group of 4 enjoyed every mouthful. The service is excellent and the food consistently first class. The only drawback is the venue itself which, after all, is located in a hotel and the outer bars can get pretty noisy and crowded. Despite that distraction, we would certainly come back again.

The lamb was delightful but having a minimum of 3 people for that meal is odd & not fair because 2 people had to pay for 3. Otherwise the menu is a little short on choices but what is there is really good

The Dining is lovely but quite expensive for the size of the portions. It's better for large groups and share menus. Opt for the bar menu in the public area for better value for a weeknight dinner.

Our first visit to this restaurant and we were very impressed. We shared a starter of shaved cauliflower salad, which was excellent. For mains we had the barramundi and the seafood linguine, both of which were delicious and cooked to perfection. Overall, this was a pleasant experience and the service was efficient and fairly friendly. The restaurant is, however, located in a section of the Charing Cross Hotel, so it lacks some of the ambiance it could have if it were in a separate environment. We will be back.

Food was lovely, as always, but service was lacking. There seemed to be only one staff member on for Sunday lunch and they were inundated.

About Charing Cross Hotel Dining Room

The Charing Cross Hotel, or the Charo as it is known locally, has its dining room open seven days a week for dinner and Friday-Sunday for Lunch. This popular eatery is filled with locals. It has the high ceilings, statement wall lights, cane and wooden chairs that are reminiscent of the Raffles in Singapore. Wind the clocks forward 80 plus years and the Charo today is a bustling haunt of locals and regulars who come for a meal, to support local charities or just sit by the fireplace and while away the weekend. The restaurant features modern European and Australian food and the neighbours consider it a gem. Couples spend time together and large groups celebrate, all the while enjoying the “great atmosphere”, delicious food and friendly service. Regulars remark on the generous size of the portions, “loads of options” on the menu and availability of outdoor dining until 10pm. Best dish: Local Mushroom & Thyme Ravioli with king oyster mushrooms, burnt miso butter & sage
