Our group of 6 had a truly beautiful meal at Araliya. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the food was delicious Sri Lankan food with a modern twist. My favourites were the Spice Crusted Fish and the Devilled Prawns, but I think everything is worth trying. Guided by Dee, I ordered for our group of 6 and everything was just right. I have no hesitation in recommending Araliya.

A meal at Araliya is the best therapy. I always feel replenished in very way after dining there. The Jaggery beef is so tender and delicious. A total must. I tried the steamed coconut custard and banana sorbet dessert last night and it was simply sublime. As always, looking forward to my next visit.
Thank you Michael Barnett, we appreciate your beautiful sentiments and we are so blessed to have you as a regular at Araliya, what more can we say, we are stoked. Look forward to seeing you in 2018!

We would be happy to return as the food is at another level higher and clearly prepared with care and dedication. The music is rather unusual and intrusive. It is rather dark at the back of the restaurant, especially with the curtain dominating. Up the front it is much brighter, looking out onto the street and park opposite.

Excellent modern take on Sri Lankan food - very enjoyable. You need better signage, so everyone can find you quicker!

Quality wine list. Top notch technique. Main portions better value than starters. Good value with Ent Card.

The new bar at the front is certainly adding to the atmosphere. Quality of seafood in the curry was very good but could have been a bit spicier. The herb crusted fish full of flavour.

About Araliya

Spicing up St Kilda Within the white walls of Araliya on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda there is some serious spice going on. Chef Sam Wedande, who was trained in hotel management and cookery in Sri Lanka, melds traditional Sri Lankan cooking and French technique, using Sri Lankan herbs and spices to create unique dishes such as wagyu brisket with cardamom and kithul palm sap; and duck confit in a roast-fennel curry. With Wedande’s wife, Dee, running the restaurant floor, Araliya is a true Sri Lankan showcase where food prevails and conversation follows. Be part of that conversation. Best dish: baked crab - fresh crabmeat cooked with green chilli and cheese, baked in the shell to a golden brown served with a ragi (Kurrukkan flour) roti bread.
