Good service, interesting modern malaysian food, well executed
noel dined on Sun, 8th Apr 2018 (8)
Disconcerting to enter the lift to find it reeked of cigarettes! Not a good start. The food very good to excellent, the service attentive after a slightly slow start. Pricey but good wine list by the glass. Not sure ill rush back , it seems to have lost a bit of the stellar quality I remember from previous visits.
noel dined on Sun, 25th Mar 2018 (8)

An absolute favourite Never had a bad meal ( or, indeed, a bad course) at this lovely restaurant. Plus an always interesting wine list.

Go for the murals! This is an iconic melbourne dining space, the murals are in fine form and worth the price of a meal. Splendid people watching, prompt and professional service. A particularly good , if short, list of wines by the glass. The food was acceptable for the price point, this is not a fine diner but a pleasant spot for a casual meal.
noel dined on Thu, 22nd Feb 2018 (8)
Prompt, pleasant service Excellent entrees..especially the spanned crab Mains good ( temura blue grenadier, schnitzel) On a return visit we’ll eat from the small dishes, which were more interesting than the mains
noel dined on Fri, 26th Jan 2018 (6)
Generally good french fare...excellent cucumber soup, good steak appropriately cooked. Pedestrian fries. Pleasant service, although a strange event at the end when two unordered , apparently complimentary glasses of vouvray arrived, but appeared on the bill. Undrinkably sweet, in any case. A good choice for a pre theatre meal in the cbd. Wouldn’t be my first choice for french in Melbourne.
noel dined on Fri, 5th Jan 2018 (7)
Pleasant, but not startling, Italian food. Very impressive wine list with some interesting selections by the glass.

noel dined on Thu, 27th Jul 2017 (5)
Ate here a month ago, really enjoyed it. Disappointing on this occasion. Lovely beetroot salad, but mains of seafood & grilled lamb/ chicken we're both substandard.
noel dined on Fri, 14th Jul 2017 (9)
Excellent food, attentive service
noel dined on Fri, 30th Jun 2017 (5)
A mixed bag. We were the only in house customers on a Friday evening, a disconcerting experience. Good service, although entrees were surprisingly slow to arrive, given the paucity of custom ( there were some home delivery orders going out) Food was mostly acceptable , although a Valencia paella failed to impress.
noel dined on Fri, 23rd Jun 2017 (9)
We're lucky enough to have scopri as our local...but we'd cross town for it. Consistently excellent food , charming service.
noel dined on Fri, 23rd Jun 2017 (9)
Interesting, beautifullly prepared Japanese food Thoughtful, intelligent service ( thank you, Jellie) One of our favourite places
noel dined on Fri, 16th Jun 2017 (9)
This might be our new favourite Greek. Excellent food, good service in a simple setting. An interesting menu with a wider range than many of melbourne's Greek places.
noel dined on Sun, 28th May 2017 (6)
Pleasant , reasonably priced last cal greek

noel dined on Thu, 4th May 2017 (9)
Excellent Japanese food , pleasant service, nice ambience. A long term favourite.
noel dined on Thu, 27th Apr 2017 (8)
Pre theatre dinner. Prompt and pleasant service. Interesting, if abbreviated , menu. Strong modern Asian influence. All our dishes were of a high standard. The wines by the glass were well selected, if a bit pricey. A good choice for the purpose, and we were out, after two courses, in an hour.
noel dined on Thu, 20th Apr 2017 (8)
Suave venue, interesting and excellent food, always something interesting on the wine list. A long time favourite, and perfect for pre or post theatre.
noel dined on Fri, 14th Apr 2017 (7)
Lovely location and charming service. Food varied from excellent ( arancini and baccala croquettes , lentil & farro salad) to just ok ( Moreton bay bug ravioli) Wine list limited , but good .
noel dined on Sat, 1st Apr 2017 (8)
Second visit in recent times.....partly drawn back by the seriously good fries The empanadas and grilled chorizo also excellent
noel dined on Fri, 24th Mar 2017 (8)
Enjoyed lady Carolina. Good guacamole and empanadas, excellent poussin from the perilla. Great French fries , coopers pale as draft. Not much not to like!
noel dined on Thu, 23rd Mar 2017 (9)
One of Melbourne's best Italian restaurants. Seems to fly under the radar, but always busy Don't miss the baby goat..or the Sicilian rabbit...or the crab pasta....in fact, an extra stomach would be very useful here.
noel dined on Fri, 17th Mar 2017 (9)
Excellent Greek food in a stylish setting. Still mourning garagiste. But this is a useful addition to the Hobart food scene.
noel dined on Sat, 11th Mar 2017 (7)
A mixed bag, here..good service, especially from the sommelier.pleasant atmosphere. A beef tartare reimagined with Asian flavours was terrific. A good piece of local beef , cooked as requested, with good sides. One serious disappointment , however..a dish of chargrilled tiger prawns was seriously marred by the poor quality of the crustaceans . A comment to this effect to the waiting staff didn't elicit the response one would expect in a restaurant of this quality. We also lunched , on the same day, at Stillwater...lovely as always.
noel dined on Sat, 4th Mar 2017 (9)
Terrific addition to the local dining scene. Interesting food, beautifully executed. Pleasant , alert service. And some unusual wines worth a look on the small list. We'll be back.....if we can get a table. This place will go gangbusters.
noel dined on Fri, 9th Dec 2016 (9)

noel dined on Fri, 25th Nov 2016 (9)
A light lunch Fabulous arancini, and a lovely asparagus/ rocket pesto prawn pasta Limited , but very good quality, wine list. Surprised at just how good the reisling is.
noel dined on Mon, 21st Nov 2016 (9)
Given its population, Melbourne is surprisingly light on for good Malaysian restaurants. This place is a long time favourite. Excellent, modern Malaysian food , with a healthy dose of classics.
noel dined on Fri, 28th Oct 2016 (9)
Ocha is a gem. Lovely food, good service, interesting wine list.

Second visit in recent times. Party of tour. Interesting food ,excellent produce, beautifully prepared & presented. Well priced wine list with plenty of range. Smart & efficient service . This place is at the top end of gastro pubs.
noel dined on Sun, 29th May 2016 (9)
This was a birthday celebration for an aunt who had just turned ninety. She is a big fan of Adrian's and was hoping to meet him. Sadly he wasn't available but the staff made us very welcome. She enjoyed very much her porterhouse steak with sides of mushroom and potato fries .A delicious chocolate brownie and a serve of pavlova with fruit, topped with lighted candle, a surprise from the kitchen, made this a very memorable lunch.
noel dined on Wed, 4th May 2016 (9)
Excellent service, home styles middle eastern food in generous quantities, beautifully prepared. A local favourite.
noel dined on Fri, 8th Apr 2016 (8)
Ok, bad stuff first..this is a barn of a place, noisy, decor pubbish. The good easily atones. Efficient, friendly service. Excellent steaks , generous and delicious sides. Not the place for a romantic dinner, but for a family dinner or a boys night out, highly recommended
noel dined on Tue, 5th Apr 2016 (6)
Pleasant venue, if pretty functional. Prompt & pleasant service. Food lacking authenticity..pan asian, rather than vietnamese.
noel dined on Sun, 27th Mar 2016 (9)

Excelent modern maaysian. Second visit in recent times, holds up well.
noel dined on Fri, 19th Feb 2016 (9)
A completely reliable favourite, interesting small dishes, great sushi & sashimi. Crab wrapped in nori, tempura, was a knockout
noel dined on Sat, 13th Feb 2016 (9)
For a city with a large Malaysian Chinese population, Melbourne is light on for good Malaysian restaurants. Blue chillie helps fill the gap The dinner menu is " restaurant" rather than hawker style food, but excellent. Best gado gado I've had since a recent visit to Penang. A daily special of duck Bao with pickled vegetables was also seriously good. Not sure about the thrice cooked duck, a signature dish...braised in master stock, roasted, then fried in a light batter..good , but maybe trying too hard. Anyway , an excellent meal, and great people watching along Brunswick st . The lunch menu , which looks more hawker style, looks worth a try.
noel dined on Thu, 11th Feb 2016 (2)
Verve visited Rui three or four times before, liked it a lot. Something has changed dramatically since our last visit. New chef? New owner? A previously very busy place , now nearly empty. Our entrees...dumplings and soft shell crab, were fine. A dish of Kung Po chicken over cooked to the point of being almost inedible. So so pork ribs, a plate of stir fried vegetables arrived Zlate in the meal, with an excessively salty, unthickened sauce. Very disappointing, our last visit I fear.
noel dined on Wed, 30th Dec 2015 (8)
Likely the sexiest restaurant in Melbourne. Excellent food, impeccable service, and that special something in the atmosphere.
noel dined on Fri, 23rd Oct 2015 (9)

Our third visit in the last few months. A warm welcome , excellent home style Middle Eastern food, a small but well chosen wine list. A local favourite.
noel dined on Fri, 8th May 2015 (9)
Great Japanese food. Outstanding sushi/ sashimi. And don't miss the prawn balls with green tea.
noel dined on Thu, 7th May 2015 (9)
Interesting and beaufptifully prepared Italian ( as opposed to Sicilian) food. Great service. Getting to the bathrooms is a bit of a pain!
noel dined on Sun, 3rd May 2015 (7)
Great Lebanese food,pizzas less impressive
noel dined on Thu, 30th Apr 2015 (9)
Second visit in recent times. That says it all.
noel dined on Sun, 26th Apr 2015 (9)
Excellent family run Lebanese. Great service , fresh Lebanese pita straight fromthe oven. The pizzas. Looked good , also.
noel dined on Sat, 18th Apr 2015 (8)
Excellent " modern Australian" Chinese food. We had a series of 5 entrees, the only difficulty being which to choose, as all sounded interesting and proved to bedelicious. Pleasant, attentive service. My only gripe is the noise level..concrete floor, reflective surfaces everywhere made for a loud experience.
noel dined on Sat, 28th Mar 2015 (8)
Excellent service, pleasant ambience, and very good food. Recommended
noel dined on Fri, 27th Mar 2015 (5)
Pleasant ambience, rather selfconsciously eccentric service. Pedestrian bistro style food. Overall, a disappointment. Carlton badly needs a good local french bistrot, & this isn't it! Back to France Soir, I fear.
noel dined on Thu, 31st Jan 2013 (9)
We've been eating here for years, on & pff, love the ambience (very sauve), and have always enjoyed the food which tended to the tapas style. We were alarmed on this visit to discover a new chef and a very different menu , more traditional fine dining ( although still with the signature great cheese ranges and intriguing range of wines by the glass). In fact , the food was superb.a beautifully cocnceived and executed kingfish entree, and duck to die for (!) To top it off , we had booked inteding to use our first Dimmi points bonus meal, but I hadn't realised I needed to print out the voucher. They honoured it anyway, no fuss (please take note , Dimmi admin , if its needed for them to claim a credit). The service was intelligent and unobtrusive. Altogether, a highly enjoyable evening..great to see an old favorite doing so well.
noel dined on Thu, 17th Jan 2013 (9)
Generally splendid food, especially the small dishes. Soft shell crab roll is a must.
noel dined on Thu, 16th Feb 2012 (9)
We enjoyed this place a lot. Good service &a pleasant atmosphere. Excellent gastropub fare , formidable kingfish sahimi starters,my partner had fish & chips and was delighted with the fish quality. I had a stuffed pigs trotter with morels snd sweetbresds..fabulous. A reasonably priced and interesting wine list . Well be back.
noel dined on Wed, 18th Jan 2012 (7)
We have lunched at Di Stasio regularly for a few years , love the atmosphere and service , the food ( usually excellent) has been a little variable on our last two visits. Overall, however, one of our much loved restaurants.
