Burma Lane

Melbourne CBD

Bron dined on Sat, 10th Feb 2018 (10)

Another delicious meal at Burma Lane, still my favourite restaurant and my husband loves it too! The Duck Doughnuts are amazing and this time we tried the spicy Beef Brisket with Bao (divine flavours and such tender meat) and the spicy Cauliflower & Potato Dumplings (so yummy and the dumplings are like super light gnocchi). Finished with the deconstructed Panacotta dessert, so light and reminded me of Chai Latte flavours, yum. Service is always very friendly and attentive and the interior design still amazes me, I love it!

Abacus Allday

Ringwood

Bron dined on Wed, 31st Jan 2018 (9)

Really nice all day menu, very healthy, fresh and innovative. Lovely interior but can be noisy when busy. The music was quite loud when I sat down initially at midday but they turned it down to a moderate level, thank goodness. Staff are friendly and efficient.

Piatella Cafe Bar

Glen Waverley

Bron dined on Tue, 23rd Jan 2018 (10)

Second time I’ve had lunch at Piatella, I really like the food and service. The only drawback is that it is quite noisy, so if you have hearing issues you may want to go somewhere quieter. My hearing is pretty good but I still had trouble hearing my friend sitting opposite me. The menu is quite extensive and reasonably priced. I really enjoyed my Grilled Calamari Salad, very tasty. We shared a Lemon Tart with vanilla ice cream, it was delicious and the coffee is very good. Nice selection of wines by the glass too. The service is very impressive - very friendly and attentive. I’m looking forward to my next lunch at Piatella and would like to try their dinner menu.

Abacus Allday

Ringwood

Bron dined on Sun, 21st Jan 2018 (10)

This upmarket cafe/restaurant is a very welcome addition to the Ringwood food scene and Eastland’s Town Square. Spacious, light and modern inside, it’s definitely a step up in all day brunch dining compared to other cafes at Eastland. Service is friendly, very professional and attentive. The menu is healthy, modern, innovative AND yummy! My husband, my teenage son and I all enjoyed our breakfast dishes and drinks (good coffee). I really like the relaxed vibe and delicious food, can’t wait to go back!

Bucatini

Mitcham

Bron dined on Sun, 7th Jan 2018 (7)

Our family dined at Bucatini for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it is inside, it’s more upmarket than I was expecting. Linen tablecloths and napkins, lovely wine glasses, very comfortable booth-style seats. It is obviously popular with family groups and at 6pm it was already moderately busy. Service is very efficient, our drink and food order was taken promptly, there was a short wait for our meals and we were ready to leave 30-40 mins after we walked in the door! Our teenage sons ordered pizzas, they looked delicious. My husband ordered seafood stew and I had duck risotto, main courses are not cheap, around $30. We enjoyed our meals but I found 5 fine pieces of duck bone in my risotto, nearly all about an inch long, it was somewhat disconcerting having to chew carefully to detect bones in my food and then having to remove them from my mouth. Overall a pleasant but not memorable dining experience.

Burma Lane

Burma Lane is my favourite restaurant in Melbourne! The food is divine, so fresh and the flavours are exquisite, I am never disappointed, the food is always consistently delicious. The Duck Doughnuts are amazing! And I adore their crunchy Tea Leaf Salad, yum. Service is always friendly and attentive and I love the restaurant’s interior, so funky and eclectic. Love it!

Rosebank North

Ringwood North

Bron dined on Sun, 10th Dec 2017 (6)

My husband, myself and our teenage son dined at Rosebank for the first time, we were keen to try it as we live within walking distance. Overall our experience was hit & miss. What we liked: beautiful historic venue, a menu and specials that would appeal to most, my fish of the day - Hapuka - was fresh and beautifully cooked, nice salad and veg nicely cooked. What we found disappointing - service, price, atmosphere and lack of innovation. I thought my fish meal and my husband’s lamb risotto lacked flavour, my son’s Fish & Chips meal was heavily battered, he picked out the fish and left a lot of batter. Flavour and presentation lacked imagination. When you pay $30+ for a meal in Ringwood, you expect top notch. We were given complimentary bread, nice touch, but it was not fresh. And I didn’t relish the chewy bread croutons in my fish meal, they were unnecessary. Atmosphere was lacking initially as were were first to arrive for dinner and there was no music (pet hate of mine, a morgue-like restaurant), subsequently they tried to fire up the sound system but to no avail. And, finally, service ... it varied from good (head waiter/barman) to underwhelming (young waitress who seemed oblivious to what was going on around her). By 7pm, they seemed a little understaffed and it took a while to get someone’s attention to get the bill. I really wanted to like this local restaurant but we won’t be rushing back. However I do think it’s a good venue if you want to take your elderly parents or grandparents out for a special meal, they’ll probably enjoy the old-fashioned atmosphere and decor.

La Camera Southgate

Southbank

Bron dined on Fri, 1st Dec 2017 (10)

What a lovely restaurant! Warm and inviting, with views from Southbank of the Yarra and CBD, delicious Italian food, friendly and very professional service. I was really impressed and look forward to dining again at La Camera.

Taxi Kitchen

Melbourne CBD

Bron dined on Sat, 25th Nov 2017 (10)

This is one of my favourite Melbourne restaurants, the food is so fresh, delicious, innovative and beautifully presented. Service is always friendly, professional and very attentive and overall vibe is relaxed, not formal or stuffy. Added bonus, they’re on the Entertainment Book Gold Card!

Balgownie Estate-Rae's Restaurant

Yarra Glen

Bron dined on Sun, 22nd Oct 2017 (10)

My friend and I had a birthday celebration lunch at Balgownie’s Rae’s Restaurant and we were very impressed. It’s upmarket but doesn’t feel formal, there’s a nice relaxed vibe. They have a lunch special, 2 courses for $49, so we opted for a Main and Dessert. I had fish (Dory) and it was lovely, beautifully cooked and on a delicious eggplant sauce. Choosing a dessert was difficult, they all sounded delicious but I couldn’t go past the Ginger Pannacotta with Rhubarb sauce and Honey ice cream. The desserts were beautifully plated and I could really taste the ginger, rhubarb and honey flavours, delicious. And what also impressed me equally was the service, very efficient for a large and busy restaurant, and friendly. I unfortunately knocked over my glass of wine after only one sip and the table was quickly cleaned up and the glass of wine replaced at no extra cost, which I really appreciated. I also got a discount by using my Entertainment Book Gold Card and a further discount by booking through Dimmi and paying with my AMEX, so I was very happy indeed!

Lulo

Hawthorn

Bron dined on Sat, 16th Sep 2017 (8)

A nice little restaurant, we enjoyed the food and wine, the service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself has a nice ambience. Even though I booked our table through Dimmi and received a confirmation and a reminder email, they didn't seem to have our reservation. As we were the first people in for dinner, it was no problem getting a table. However, the next people to come in, a couple, were seated right next to us when there was the whole restaurant to seat them. That is my pet hate - why do restaurants do that? Fair enough if the restaurant is half full and there's not many options left to seat couples, put them next to each other if you have to. But not when the restaurant is practically empty!!! Our table was next to the wall and the other couple (brother & sister, according to my husband who had difficulty in not hearing their conversation) and I felt like my personal space had been invaded and that I was boxed in. Given we were on a rare 'date night', I felt really uncomfortable and very aware that the couple next to us would be able to hear our conversation just as clearly as we could hear theirs. I tried my best not to listen to their animated conversation but it's really hard to ignore when they're sitting an arm's length away from you in a quiet restaurant. Instead of being a relaxing dinner, I couldn't wait to leave, purely because of the seating.

The Coal Pit

Nunawading

Bron dined on Fri, 1st Sep 2017 (8)

A welcome addition to Nunawading dining! A lovely little restaurant with Middle Eastern & Mediterranean dishes, nice presentation, friendly & attentive service, pleasant decor and outdoor dining out the front of the restaurant which would be lovely in the warmer months. Our family of 4 ordered a Dip Board (3 dips, pita bread and pickled salad), very nice and plenty to eat. We shared a Meat Tagine and my younger son, who doesn't like spicy, had a Seafood Grill all to himself, it was enough for 2 - prawns, calamari and a large grilled fish fillet, on a bed of Tabbouli salad and a lot of chips, he really enjoyed it. A very enjoyable and pleasant meal, I'm looking forward to going back again.

Carlos Cantina Croydon

Croydon

Bron dined on Wed, 30th Aug 2017 (6)

I was a little disappointed with Carlos Cantina in Croydon, their website looks really good and dining reviews are good. It used to be Taco Bills and I don't think too much has changed. The menu is pretty standard and a little confusing, we had to ask a staff member to explain the difference between the different types of dishes, i.e. Enchilada, burrito, fajita, quesadilla. Photos of dishes would have been useful. The prices aren't overly cheap but Mon-Wed nights the entrees and mains are half price, except Fajitas and seafood dishes which are $17. The restaurant doesn't have much ambiance but it is ideal for groups and families, it's pretty casual. Service is OK, we had to try and catch a staff member's eye a number of times to request service. The staff member who explained the menu to us did a great job and was thorough. The meals are large but not particularly appealing in presentation, though we were all reasonably satisfied with our meals and the Chocolate Mousse dessert was good. Overall, you get good value Mon-Tue, the food is OK but I can't say I'm keen to return.

Piatella Cafe Bar

Glen Waverley

Bron dined on Tue, 29th Aug 2017 (9)

Excellent menu, modern Italian, moderately priced and good value. I had Arancini, very nicely presented and enjoyable. My friend had the Chicken Burger with hand cut chips, it was a generous serving. The cafe is licenced and has extensive range of desserts and cakes on offer. It is open for lunch and dinner - we had lunch here and it was busy and quite noisy (acoustics are not great), you would struggle to hear conversation if you have hearing issues. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly, despite being so busy. I'm looking forward to returning.
