The Pantry Manly

Manly

Jeremy dined on Sun, 23rd Sep 2018 (8)

We dined at the Pantry for a Birthday lunch celebration and requested a window table. The staff were very accommodating and found us a great table. Started with an entree of Zucchini flower which as good and followed with Tuna Carpacio which had excellent flavours but was very light on tuna. For mains I had a grilled Tuna steak with salad which was quite bland and lacked any flavour. My partner had the steak which she found excellent. Standout was the desert of Banoffee pie - amazing and well worth it.

De Vita - Tastes of Napoli

Manly

Jeremy dined on Sat, 21st Jul 2018 (7)

Great local Italian with excellent choice of pizza and pasta. The veal scallopini was very tender and tasty. The only thing I could fault was the pizza crust could be a little crunchier but the flavours were excellent and authentic.

Sorenzo contemporary Japanese Dining

Sydney CBD

Jeremy dined on Sat, 12th May 2018 (9)

We dined on a Saturday night before seeing a show at the ICC. As we were short on time the staff were very helpful in prioritizing our order so we could get to our show on time. The presentation and quality of the food was superb, all our friends were absolutely impressed. I highly recommend the miso grilled scallops, wagyu gyoza, agadashi tofu and the grilled wagyu beef Kushiyaki. Another stand out is that they give you fresh Wasabi (grated not powdered) with sushi and sashimi. I was told by our Japanese friend that fresh Wasabi is very hard to come by outside of Japan. We will definitely be back again.

Monte Alto Eatery and Bar

Crows Nest

Jeremy dined on Sat, 21st Apr 2018 (7)

We dined on a Saturday night and took advantage of the 20% discount through Dimmi. They offer a range of discounts throughout the week, some up to 50% off. Both of us loved the Zucchini flower entree which had a beautiful blue cheese filling. The mains we chose were the chicken and pork which were a very generous size with plenty of vegetables. Our only minor criticism would be the main course flavours lacked a little subtly but having said that we enjoyed them both. The coffee Panna Cotta for desert had nice presentation with plenty of berries and was a really nice way to finish off the meal.

Bistro Mekong

Castlecrag

Jeremy dined on Sat, 24th Mar 2018 (7)

We dined at Bistro Mekong on a Saturday night and found it pretty busy. The seating is mainly outdoor and we found the indoor seating very cold with the air-conditioning on full. Tried the Spanner crab tacos for entree and found it very dry, serving size was small but the flavours were good. I would recommend the Vietnamese pancake but be aware the chilli is very hot. Loved the pork belly stirfry and the chicken papaya salad.

Dante's Grill & Tapas Bar

Cremorne

Jeremy dined on Sat, 17th Mar 2018 (7)

We dined at Dante's Grill on a Saturday night and were surprised at how big the Restaurant is. There are outside tables, a large main section and the back room. As the diners are spread out it feels like the restaurant is very empty which can detract from the atmosphere. We decided to try 5 tapas dishes and no mains, which was ample for two people. I recommend the Arancini, meat balls, stuffed Zucchini flower and the grilled scallops. The calamari was nice but nothing spectacular. Both of us had the house Sangria which was quite refreshing on a hot day. The berry Panacotta for desert was also very nice The owner is a very nice guy and he comes round to each table to chat about your experience dining at his restaurant. Will be back to try the mains.

The Deck Sydney

Milsons Point

Jeremy dined on Sat, 25th Nov 2017 (6)

We dined at the Deck on a Saturday night and as the restaurant has fabulous views of Sydney Harbour we requested window table . Having dined here previously a few years ago we were disappointed with the food. The pick of our food was the seared scallops entree which had very subtle and lovely flavours. The other dishes lacked refinement for the prices but having said that, all the dishes are prepared using really fresh and high quality produce. The waiter who served us for the night was very polite and very attentive and in fact all the staff were very professional.

Suzie's Restaurant

Lane Cove

Jeremy dined on Sat, 4th Nov 2017 (8)

We dined at Suzie's for the first time on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy and I advise booking well in advance for a Friday or Saturday table. For entree we shared the smoked Burrata cheese and the pan fried Octopus - the latter was my favourite. Main course consisted of pan fried Barrumundi and the Angus eye fillet. The main course sizes were a little small but both were good. As we ordered sides of truffle mash and mixed leaf salad we had enough food. The deserts we ordered were the chocolate garden and the deconstructed lemon tart, both were nice and a good size.

Restaurant Plage

Cremorne

Jeremy dined on Sat, 23rd Sep 2017 (9)

We dined at Plage with some friends on a Saturday night and were welcomed warmly by Yuki the joint owner/host. The restaurant was very busy as it is gaining a great reputation for having very innovative food. The chef/owner Tomoyuki is Japanese and has trained in one of Frances top restaurants with 3 Michelin stars. The best way to describe Tomos food would be modern Australian cuisine with French/ Japanese influences. We kicked off with some lovely starters, squid ink wafers with a smoked cod cream dip and pork crackling with duck parfait sprinkled with raspberry powder - both amazing. Next up for entrees we had the scallop sashimi with butter powder and mascarpone - very subtle and beautifully creamy. The wagyu in dashi broth has a cured egg yolk and mushrooms - it is lightly cooked when the wait staff pour over the steaming dashi broth. Both are very different but absolutely a must to try and I also highly recommend the aburi salmon with saikyo miso and buttermilk. For mains we went for the roasted kurobuta pork, grilled angus beef and the beautifully prepared market fish - all our mains were superb and I couldn't pick a favourite. The deserts at Plage are out of this world - caramelised white chocolate mouse with nectarine sorbet and beetroot wafers. The Sakura ice cream is also a must have - meringue sticks cover azuki mouse which is filled with sweet raspberries. Plage is now one of our favourite restaurants and we will be eager to see what Tomo comes up with next as his menu changes with the seasons. The added bonus is that Plage is BYO as well as fully licensed.

Maestro & Co

Manly

Jeremy dined on Sat, 16th Sep 2017 (8)

We dined at Maestro & Co on a Saturday night and loved the buzzy atmosphere . Tried the tapas menu and would highly recommend the grilled octopus , prawns and beetroot falafal but found the calamari a little average. Finished off with the knafeh for desert, it looked great on the plate but was very dry with little flavour - needs to be improved.

Korean Samurai

Cremorne

Jeremy dined on Sat, 1st Jul 2017 (7)

We recently took some friends for dinner and had the Bulgogi, Bibimbap, Japchae and Korean Dumpling soup which was all great and still up to their high standard. The one thing that disappointed me was that the staff never close the door and it was a freezing night . There isn't any adequate indoor heating so the restaurant is constantly cold. Also the staff are very eager to leave and they start packing up after the kitchen closes at 9pm. We were out of there by 10pm as I got tired of closing the door. We love this place but will wait till it gets warmer to go back.

Teta's Authentic Lebanese

Roseville

Jeremy dined on Sat, 1st Apr 2017 (9)

We dined at Teta's and brought some friends who hadn't been there before. The food is always of the highest quality and consistently good. The Kofta entrée is a must as well as the garlic and lemon chicken and the char grilled lamb back-strap is fantastic. The main course sizes are huge, we shared 2 with four people. We finished of with baklava that comes with Teta's amazing pistachio ice cream. One thing that let the meal down was the Lebanese coffee which was nicely presented but was too watery and weak. Our first time friends loved the food and will be back.

Chiosco by Ormeggio

Mosman

Jeremy dined on Tue, 7th Feb 2017 (9)

We dined at Chiosco for a special occasion and the staff welcomed us with a complimentary glass of bubbly. Entrees and mains were fantastic but the only thing that let the meal down was the panacotta desert which was not up to the same high standard. Service was great and a big plus is its BYO wine.

Grolla

Neutral Bay

Jeremy dined on Sat, 28th Jan 2017 (5)

We had dined previously at Grolla and took friends there for our second visit. We were disappointed that one of their best pork dishes was taken off the menu also there was not enough options for main courses. We noticed there were too many burgers on the dinner menu and it now feels too much like a cafe menu. For the money we paid per head I expect more.

Grolla

Neutral Bay

Jeremy dined on Sat, 14th Jan 2017 (9)

We dined at Grolla for the first time and absolutely loved the food. We started with some Tapas, the Smoked Kingfish Carpacio and the Seared Beef Tenderloin are a must have. For mains we had the Smoked Beef Short Ribs and the Guanciale Affumicato (smoked pork cheeks), both dishes were subtle and refined in flavour and presentation. Don't forget to order the Steak Fries with Truffle Pecorino as a side. The owner Paulo explained that they do their own smoking of the meat and seafood which makes their dishes so unique without being overpowering. This will be one of our favourite restaurants now - highly recommend you try it. An added bonus is that they are BYO wine as well as being licensed. Cheers Jeremy :)
