The Charing Cross Hotel

Waverley

Rohit dined on Sat, 20th May 2017 (9)

Our first trip to the 'Charo' and it was worth it. The food was great - steak tartare with a spicy twist, delicious and beautifully presented kingfish and scallop ceviche, followed by gnocchi with chèvre and an interesting honey butter sauce, giving a great combination of sweetness and saltiness. The barramundi did not disappoint as well, although the bread and butter pudding did not quite hit the spot, it seemed to lack something. All in all a good evening and service was cheerful and friendly most of the time.

Anason

Sydney CBD

Rohit dined on Wed, 3rd May 2017 (8)

The food was very good and the restaurant had thoughtfully brought out heaters and blankets for a colder than ubsual autumn day. Service was initially attentive but after our first dish of turmeric hummous, everything else took a long time to come, despite a few prompts. When it did come, our order of veal liver, aubergines and hanger steak was excellent. The kitchen can cook but wonder it things can be speeded up!

Fino Seppeltsfield

Seppeltsfield

Rohit dined on Tue, 18th Apr 2017 (9)

Great sharing food and amazing service. Our wine recommendation was spot on!

Jewel on the Bay

Rose Bay

Rohit dined on Sun, 2nd Apr 2017 (7)

Food was good, although the menu has become quite hybrid - would like to see more Indian options please. Our friendly server recommended the off menu Chef's chicken chettinad, which was good, although the veg curry was average.

Pompei's

Bondi Beach

Rohit dined on Sun, 26th Mar 2017 (7)

Good meal at fresco with the family. Gnocchi was good although our diavola pizza was wet and soggy. Service was friendly as always

Osteria Riva

Bondi Junction

Rohit dined on Fri, 17th Mar 2017 (9)

Great meal and service and authentic Italian ambience. I loved my ravioli although my companion found her tuna steak a bit bland. The montepulciano abruzzo washed everything down well, and the tiramisu and cheese were excellent. Service was quick and very friendly.

Mekong

Rohit dined on Fri, 11th Nov 2016 (8)

Food and atmosphere were very good. All dishes are to share so we sampled about a dozen amongst 4 of us. Our server was a bit distracted although he apologised later.

Amazing views of the Coral sea as we relaxed in our lounger and had some of their wonderful fusion food! Kids menu was good too and their steaks were cooked perfectly. Highly recommended for a lazy long afternoon lunch or a cosy dinner. Very friendly service too.

Impulse booking and an enjoyable meal

Pasha's Lounge

Bondi

Rohit dined on Sun, 14th Aug 2016 (8)

Impulse booking but well worth it. Food was very god and service was friendly and obliging. Try the Hunkar Begendi - grilled aubergine with stewed lamb I believe you can BYOB as well. A neighbourhood gem I'd say.

Zaaffran

Darling Harbour

Rohit dined on Sun, 31st Jul 2016 (7)

Our food was good - both starters (pao bhaji and puchka were yummy) and main (a very flavoursome meen moilee with rice). The kids' food on the other hand, not so great. The butter chicken was way too sweet - almost like chicken in tomato sauce. In desserts, the kulfi assortment was terrific, but the gulab jamun was awful. Overall, the views were great and our server was very friendly. But on the broader service side, whilst I'm aware some restaurants charge Sunday surcharges, but specifying minimum spend amounts seemed a bit much. So, if you order carefully, you could have a great meal here.

The Greek at the Belvedere

Sydney CBD

Rohit dined on Fri, 29th Jul 2016 (9)

Bright well lit dining room, great sharing menu (so tempting, we over ordered!) and prompt, friendly service.

Harry's Bondi

Bondi

Rohit dined on Sun, 24th Jul 2016 (9)

Great place with a really interesting breakfast menu. This was topped only by the warm and friendly service!

Aki's Indian Restaurant

Woolloomooloo

Rohit dined on Sun, 17th Jul 2016 (8)

Great location at Wolloomooloo, we sat al fresco to enjoy the view. The restaurant wasn't busy and service was prompt, although could have been a little more attentive. The food was great - the duck and chicken kebabs were well spiced and tasty, the spinner crab idiappam (rice string hoppers) dish was probably the best we had there. The barramundi curry was sweet and sour (perhaps a little too tomatoey, though). All in all, a great Sunday afternoon lunching we'll be back.

Pompei's

Bondi Beach

Rohit dined on Mon, 13th Jun 2016 (9)

Great pizzas and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Kids were given colours and papers on requests, which kept them busy. Would love to see a few more salads on the menu, although our cabbage, pecorino and balsamic salad was pretty good.

Chefs Gallery Townhall

Sydney CBD

Rohit dined on Fri, 27th May 2016 (8)

Good food and quick, efficient service as always. Our waitress was very helpful with advice on spiciness. And the jasmine tea kept flowing.

Assembly Bar

Sydney CBD

Rohit dined on Thu, 26th May 2016 (9)

First time here for a convenient, quick and economical lunch. Lunchtime menu was handy, with a choice of pastas and a drink or a pizza. We each chose the diavola pizza which was very good with a lovely crust and perfect fire on the toppings. Service was friendly and quick.

Delhi By The Way

Potts Point

Rohit dined on Fri, 8th Apr 2016 (8)

We went here in a family group for a birthday celebration. The restaurant delighted us by seating us in a special enclave surrounded by balloons, making us feel welcome and very festive. The manager, Sushil was very hospitable indeed. We had the veg and non veg mixed platters to share, which were both very good, especially the lamb chops. The mains could have been better though and whilst the Delhi chicken was flavoursome and spicy as promised, the dal makhani did not live up to expectations at all. The desserts were good though, especially the gulab jamuns. This is a 9 month old place and with some tweaks to their food and continued good service, should do well.

Pony Dining The Rocks

The Rocks

Rohit dined on Wed, 6th Apr 2016 (8)

This is a lovely restaurant in the Rocks, with an easy, accessible menu (just one substantial page), compact but balanced wine list and very friendly service. We shared a few 'small bites' - the lobster tails and Gruyere soufflé were particularly good. Of the steaks, the flat iron was a standout for the meat as much as the flavours of the accompaniments. Our server was warm and forthcoming with recommendations. We'll be back.

Claire's Kitchen at Le Salon

Darlinghurst

Rohit dined on Fri, 1st Apr 2016 (8)

Great evening with excellent food and very friendly, chatty service. We were seating a little cove in front of the bar which was cosy yet convenient. One of the best things of a French restaurant is they serve wines by the carafe which is excellent if you want to start with a cocktail, like we did (the Pinot Noir hit the spot). We wanted to save ourselves for the desserts so ordered two entrées each. Moules marinières and Tuna three ways to start with, followed by the obligatory steak tartare and scallops. The steak tartare was excellent, served with crispy, thin bread with the yolk poured at the table. The dessert platter was a difficult choice and we chose the creme brûlée and the orange mousse with Grand Marnier, with the latter definitely being the better choice. Service was excellent - the friendly bartender replaced my Sazerac which didn't quite hit the spot with another one, which did. We'll be back!

Jewel on the Bay

Rose Bay

Rohit dined on Fri, 25th Mar 2016 (8)

Spur of the moment booking and a good experience overall. The service was friendly as always and quick although the food was mixed. The vegetarian fare was average - mixed veg korma was too sweet and not creamy enough for a korma and we've had better daal tadka. The mixed grill platter on the other hand, was excellent, with the succulent prawns the best of the lot, washed down with a cold kingfisher beer! We'll be back.

Criniti's Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour

Rohit dined on Wed, 16th Mar 2016 (8)

Great location, and perfect for our pre-movie dinner. Food was good - vegetarian pizza and barramundi, with a drink each. Service was friendly and fairly quick. Plus views of Darling Harbour made it a great evening!

Pilu at Akuna Bay

Terrey Hills

Rohit dined on Sun, 14th Feb 2016 (8)

Great location and the food was very good. Service could have been better overall although there were some really positive notes - we'd asked for alfresco but it was a very hot day and they moved us inside as soon as they could. But not all waitresses well fully trained - one told us there were no kids menu choices whem in fact there were. The drinks and mains took too long to arrive and they missed out the veg main for one of our group. Finally given the length of time they ran out of advertised desserts although the substitute was pretty good. The Manager was lovely however, she apologised and adjusted the bill. Teething troubles and will be back once things have settled down a bit!

Buon Ricordo Restaurant

Paddington

Rohit dined on Wed, 18th Nov 2015 (9)

Great and atmospheric venue for a cosy birthday dinner. The food was excellent home cooked Italian, well worth coming back for and the service was friendly and attentive. We shared a starter and dessert and enjoyed hearty mains each. The bread was freshly baked and tasty. The reason for a lower rating on service was since we were billed for a glass of wine which we returned (it was poured without offering a taste first). It was only after we complained that the manager deducted it from the bill. We'll leave that as an isolated incident for now and be back for the excellent food.

Ester

Chippendale

Rohit dined on Tue, 3rd Nov 2015 (8)

The ambience and service were very warm and friendly. We were seated at the bar which was actually pretty good because it allowed us to have a conversation with our server and soak in the overall buzz albeit in an unobtrusive sort of way. The wine selection was concise and pretty good. We tasted a couple before deciding what to have. The menu is pretty straight forward - nibbles, starters, mains and sides. Our server recommended how much of each we ought to order, which was actually quite helpful and a pretty good indication. For the degustation he was honest enough to say "you won't need more food after this!" So we went a la carte. The oysters were fresh if somewhat overwhelmed by the horseradish emulsion (we were later told we could've asked for the no sauce option). Squid dumplings were deliciously glutinous (but not crispy?). The raw monkfish was by far the best course of the evening, the flank steak was perfectly cooked, the fish fillet was drowned in sauce which felt a little sweet and begged for more seasoning which we called for. Finally the signature dessert - three milks was a very pleasant surprise. All in all a great evening and if the menu is seasonal, we’ll be back!

Rohit hasn't selected a top 10 yet.
