Every dish was extraordinarily thought out and attentively put together. Amazing food and impeccable service.

Zaaffran

Darling Harbour

Carmen dined on Thu, 30th Nov 2017 (7)

Really delicious Indian food that is not heavy on your stomach. Their curries are light and not oily. The vegetarian selection is great. We were seated on outside table so had an amazing view. The decor of the restaurant inside could do with a tidy up, it looked a little cluttered. Doesn’t affect the food though!

Ananas

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Thu, 2nd Nov 2017 (8)

Great views, great food and cosy French atmosphere.

The Morrison Bar & Oyster Room

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Fri, 27th Oct 2017 (8)

Friendly staff who were fairly attentive. It was Friday lunch and it was not too busy. A nice location with plenty of light in the back area. Food was reasonably good. We were on the Citi dining program and so enjoyed a complimentary bottle of wine by using the Citi credit card which made it very good value.

ABODE Bistro Bar

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Mon, 16th Oct 2017 (8)

Excellent venue for business meeting as comfortable seating and quiet enough to talk. Sophisticated and classy decor with professional hotel class service. I have been back several times for business meetings.

Harvest Vegetarian

Rozelle

Carmen dined on Sat, 14th Oct 2017 (8)

A quaint neighborhood gem tucked in the back streets of Rozelle. It has a cosy atmosphere like your eating in your grandma's kitchen. For vegetarians this is a great choice. Prices are reasonable and of course service is attentive and intimate as you would expect from this place. We had the Aubergine tower and Zucchini in a sea of spinach. Pretty good.

LOT.1 Sydney

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Fri, 13th Oct 2017 (7)

Went there on the Citi dining program and got a complimentary bottle of wine. Overall food is nice but for the prices your paying I would not expect anything less. The service was disappointing, staff was too busy running around and not being attentive. Decor was modern and had edge to it - The central CBD location makes it a good venue for fine dining lunch but I probably would not go there for dinner.

Cafe Del Mar

Darling Harbour

Carmen dined on Wed, 4th Oct 2017 (6)

Service was disappointing. Staff were too busy running around cleaning rather than taking orders and providing any customer service.

The Lane Sydney

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Fri, 22nd Sep 2017 (6)

Nice casual vibe for a drink and a bite. Great for catching up as it’s quieter in the lane way where it is located but still close enough to the city action (especially Ryan’s bar across the road). Food is ok, it’s not fine dining but serves its purpose for a quick feed while your there if your hungry. I would probably recommend this place more for catch up drinks/nibble menu.

de Vine

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Wed, 20th Sep 2017 (9)

Excellent service, great ambience- very cosy wine bar but classy, food was good. Will definitely go back.

La Pesa

Darlinghurst

Carmen dined on Tue, 5th Sep 2017 (8)

A quaint modest French restaurant tucked away behind oxford st. Service extremely attentive and professional. Food was authentically French and was good. Not a big fan of the restaurant layout but this is how the building premise comes so not much can be done. My guest from Adelaide who is Spanish felt like she was in France which is a good sign!

bills in surry hills

Surry Hills

Carmen dined on Wed, 30th Aug 2017 (9)

Service was excellent, food was delicious and high quality. Bills is a safe choice for fine dining food but in a casual setting. We had 30% off food through dimmi which made it extremely good value for what we had. The snapper and yellow curry fish is a must on the menu.

Cubby's Kitchen

Surry Hills

Carmen dined on Tue, 8th Aug 2017 (8)

Very simple set up so atmosphere of eating out was not there (it was also a Tuesday so wasn't busy perhaps it's better on Friday/ Saturday). Food was delicious and prices are reasonable. Baba Ganoush with the miso egg plant and the barramundi dish was superb. The fish melted in my mouth. I would go back again. We ordered a bottle from their menu but next time i will byo!

Degani

Zetland

Carmen dined on Thu, 11th May 2017 (5)

Friendly & attentive service, more of a casual walk in cafe then a formal dinner venue. Food was decent but for prices charged relative to what's around the local neighborhood & Surry Hills, many restaurants have a much better ambience/style/edge - and that's what you're also paying for when choosing a restaurant for dinner.

Yayoi Garden

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Tue, 9th May 2017 (9)

Great service, comfortable seating, good quality food.

Bitton Oatley

Oatley

Carmen dined on Sat, 8th Apr 2017 (8)

I've been to the one in Alexandria and this is a very cozy set up. Service and food was excellent. We had a complimentary starter and dessert which was lovely. It would be even better if they had more vegetarian options and a slightly bigger menu but I do understand they switch menus frequently. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Cafe Opera

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Sat, 25th Mar 2017 (7)

The hotel is a bit dated and could do with a renovation, the buffet is not quite a 5 star hotel standard (compared to what I've had overseas) but nevertheless was still decent quality for seafood. The pork was a bit dry and some of the dessert a bit hard. Cookies were soft & nuts were soggy (may have been left out for too long). The cocktails were fairly weak (in terms of alcohol was more of a very weak watery fruit punch). We got 20% off for arriving 12:45pm as buffet finished 2:30pm - this made it more worthwhile and value for money otherwise for $79 (normal price) I don't think it's the best value. The benefit is for a family it has food to cater for different tastes which makes it 'easy'. Staff were attentive and very friendly. Overall not bad with the discount worth a try.

The Cortile

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Fri, 24th Mar 2017 (1)

It was $75 per person with a choice of champagne or martini. The pastries were too sweet and the only unlimited item was tea or coffee. I didn't get much value for this so was disappointed with this experience.

Norsk Bar & Kitchen

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Tue, 7th Mar 2017 (7)

Tucked away but very interesting entrance and creative decor (very Viking like). Menu is very simple and limited choice but food is very good quality and cooked well. Good bar selection. Very friendly staff. It's dark inside like a cave so great for intimate catch up or a romantic date.

Pazar Food Collective

Hurlstone Park

Carmen dined on Fri, 21st Oct 2016 (8)

A great funky place which was not expected on Canterbury Road. Menu is quite interesting and prices are reasonable. Servings are not large but quality of food is excellent. Would definitely go back to try the banquet tasting menu. The desserts are delicious but for health conscious people perhaps better to share the ice cream sandwich, it's decadent and amazing but a calorie explosion!

ABODE Bistro Bar

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Thu, 30th Jun 2016 (7)

Tucked away in the Park Royal hotel this place is easily overlooked however it's a great place for a business luncheon or a intimate catch up with friends - interior is refreshingly calm and elegant. Kristin served us that day and she was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Cod and the Ocean Trout with spicy Brussell Sprouts as sides. Both fish came out fresh and was nicely complimented. I noticed other patrons were ordering the $19.50 lunch special which came with a glass of wine. The choices on the lunch special was fairly extensive so I might try that next time - it looked pretty good.

COOH Alexandria

Alexandria

Carmen dined on Thu, 16th Jun 2016 (8)

I'm glad there is an organic restaurant in Alexandria now. In fact we need more organic restaurants in Sydney. Produce tasted wholesome and fresh. We ordered the cured salmon trout as entree, for mains, the steak and grilled ocean trout. For sides we ordered the chili/garlic broccoli. It would be good if the menu had chicken. Given everything was organic I thought the prices were decent.

love.fish

Rozelle

Carmen dined on Sun, 22nd May 2016 (8)

I've been meaning to try this place for a while. First up I love their sustainable fishing as their source of seafood. Their menu is simple but very wholesome and tasty. If you love seafood this place is perfect. I had the snapper with black bean brussel sprouts and chips. When it came out the dishes were visually very simple but the taste was anything but bland. I finished the meal extremely satisfied and no traces of oil (even the chips tasted healthy). Great place to have a healthy wholesome and environmentally friendly seafood meal.

Da Mario

Rosebery

Carmen dined on Fri, 20th May 2016 (8)

Service was excellent, organised and professional (a standout feature that night). The food and wine lived up to the usual Mario reputation. My friends happily gobbled up their Calzones and Pizza's whilst I ordered the pan fried salmon as my main. It was good to see they offered 2 specials which were carb-free options. If I want Italian food I would definitely choose Da Mario's. They use quality produce and cooked with care.

Yayoi Garden

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Thu, 19th May 2016 (7)

I normally go to Yayoi at The Galleries in Town hall as its closer but decided to try this one fancier version on Bridge St. Overall the quality of the food is good but the seating is much more comfortable at Yayoi Gardens. Great for a business lunch meeting. I like eating at this chain as it serves Kinme rice which is supposed to be super healthy. It also has a fairly healthy menu selection which I like.

Sea Bay Restaurant

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Thu, 5th May 2016 (7)

I would summarise this place as cheap and cheerful. For the price charged the quality is good. We ordered the steamed dumplings (you get 12 and we ordered 6 pork&vege and then 6 vegetarian). We also ordered the mushroom and vegetable soup with bean noodles. Servings were generously sized and dumplings were decent quality. Enjoyed the generous plate of chili sauce to go with noodles and dumplings. It's of course no comparison to the gourmet dumplings at Din Tai Fung or Tim Ho Wan etc but this place is not that market altogether. This place is back to basics - an old school Chinese eatery (reminds me of Chinatown in the late 80's early 90's - neon yelloe/blue lights with a few tables and chairs thrown in - part of the charm i guess? It was Thursday night and plenty of people. Of the cheap eats in the CBD this is recommended for a good dumpling/noodles feed.

COOH Alexandria

Alexandria

Carmen dined on Sun, 1st May 2016 (7)

Staff were very friendly however not experienced. We ordered sweet potato chips and instead got served normal chips (chips were a little oily), we asked for an extra spoon for the dessert and a staff mumbled yes but never came back. We inquired about the ingredients of the vegan dessert but staff had no idea what it was made of. It would be good if the staff knew more about the menu. We ordered the scotch fillet sandwich, sweet potato chips (can't comment on that as plain fries came out and we found it oily), raw vegan caramel slice ($4.50) and the chocolate and coffee cake for dessert ($5) - both were made on the premise. Overall food was nice, ingredients were fresh. Caramel slice was generously sized and satisfied my sugar fix. Seating is spacious and comfortable and the place has a very relaxed atmosphere. Car parking provided in the building also makes it a convenient venue. Prices for the coffee and dessert were standard/reasonable. Prices for the sandwich ($20) is a little on the expensive side but nevertheless tasted good. It is a decent alternative to those who want decent wholefoods with the chaos of the Grounds which is around the corner.

The Muglan Nepalese & Indian Cuisine

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Fri, 29th Apr 2016 (6)

I ordered the Chicken Sekuwa Set ($12.90). The chicken was okay nothing special. I didn't realise the rice would be flattened rice mixed with pappadam pieces (I later found out this was called "chiura"). I would have preferred normal rice with the chicken as it would have been more filling, the flattened rice looked and tasted like a few spoons of cereal oat flakes so I was left mildly hungry/unsatisfied. My friend ordered the special lunch menu for $11.90 which came with a choice of 2 curries + Naan bread or rice. The food tasted okay but wasn't amazing. The price charged is okay for restaurant service (i.e. you get table service and comfortable seating) but not that cheap in terms of the food you got. However for that price it is still better than eating something similar in a food court as the quality of the food is definitely better than a food court. Its good venue to catch up with a friend over lunch as seating is comfortable and you can talk.

Lotus Restaurant Galeries

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Thu, 21st Apr 2016 (9)

First time at Lotus but from the moment i walked in I was impressed with the decor, seating and space. Wait staff were very attentive and professional. I was sitting under an air vent and they were quick to turn up the temperature and make sure I was comfortable. I don't usually comment on handwash but they used AESOP which was a nice touch (clearly I am female and these subtle details show attentiveness and thought at Lotus). We ordered the 30 min/$30 Lotus Express Lunch, which came with the Rush-Smoked Salmon which was a refreshing palate), Pan-fried shallot pancake (perfectly fried and not oily but crisp), Crispy Skin chicken with spicy soy sauce (sauce was a standout as was how tender and juicy the chicken was, it melted in my mouth), steamed asian greens and a bowl of rice. In addition to this set menu we also ordered the steamed shitake mushroom dumplings and the special pork buns. I was impressed with every dish. Despite sounding like very simple asian dishes, each was cooked perfect and had something unique about it. Dishes were decently sized and made with quality ingredients and cooked with care and to perfection. Definitely worth the extra money you pay as the quality in comparison to your normal lunch menu around Townhall is miles apart. In hindsight we didn't need to order the extra dishes on top of the set menu as I was very full however no regrets as the pork bun was devine and the pastry on the dumplings was so thin it melted in your mouth and generous amounts of shitake inside it. I will definitely come back with my colleagues.

Chefs Gallery Townhall

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Fri, 8th Apr 2016 (7)

We ordered their signature prawn and pork wonton handmade noodles dish and also their handmade noodle with slow cooked beef brisket. Both dishes tasted good and the ingredients were fresh. Size was just right for me (not too small but not too big). They are not the cheapest chinese eatery around the CBD so you pay fairly for what you get. Service was attentive enough but they were overly busy. All in all, there was no "wow" factor but noodles were decent. Give it go, you won't be disappointed however might be fair to say there will be other gems in chinatown who could serve the same dish (however the fact that the noodles at chefs gallery is handmade may give them more edge). I was also quite thirsty after the noodles and also the after taste of the heavy garlic based shanghainese style spicy sauce lingered all afternoon! Location is convenient to catch up for a quick work lunch.

Riley St Garage

Woolloomooloo

Carmen dined on Fri, 4th Mar 2016 (9)

This was my first time at Garage and I was overall very happy with the experience. I had a Friday 6pm reservation after work and fortunately did not get kicked off our table within the 2 hour time slot as cautioned at time of booking as they were not full. I really liked the retro/funky/underground decor and relaxed vibe of the place. It was just the atmosphere I wanted after a long week at work to start my weekend. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. From the raw share menu, my friend and I shared the king-fish and steak tartare (barley miso) and the steak tartare took the prize. It was delicious (king-fish was still very good but nothing extraordinary so to speak). We also shared the spinach ravioli from the small share menu and that was a good pick, something different for the taste buds (sage butter was nice). From the mains we shared the grilled whole baby snapper with red pepper, chorizo and ordered the grilled mushroom w/sweet sherry garlic as a side. The grilled snapper was very fresh and cooked to perfection, meat was soft but not soggy. The chorizo and red pepper was an excellent pairing to the snapper as it did not overpower the natural flavour of the snapper. Lastly we finished off the summer fruits, coconut panacotta. That was light simple and refreshing. As we also shared a bottle of cabernet sauvignon the amount of food was just right for the two of us. Overall a very pleasant experience. The place is casual but classy and had fine dining quality food without the stiffness. The price is expensive but fair market prices for the quality of food they were serving.

Fogo Brazilia

Chippendale

Carmen dined on Wed, 10th Feb 2016 (6)

We ordered the meat platter to share ($26) but was still hungry (the picture in menu was alot bigger than reality) so then we ordered the 2 Grande Meals ($17.50 each). After sampling the meat platter we chose Chicken & Beef + Garden Salad + Bean Salad + bread), my partner got the same except he chose potato salad. That was better value. My partner's beef was very dry so that spoilt his experience but mine was fine so they need to improve on consistency. The lamb and churrasco was nothing special so would not order that after trying it on platter. The 2 sauces they provided with the meals was very nice. It was Wednesday afternoon so no queues and only us dining for a late lunch so did expect better consistency in the beef. Overall it was decent/ok not bad but didn't find it special.

Maya Da Dhaba

Surry Hills

Carmen dined on Tue, 5th Jan 2016 (7)

This was my second visit and unfortunately it was way too busy for a Tuesday night as many restaurants around the area were still closed from the Christmas/NY period. There were also many diners who came from the cricket early due to wet weather. The restaurant was too loud and noisy and ruined the dining experience. Also many obnoxious patrons who looked like they been at the pub all afternoon from the cricket and were drunk. Shortage of wait staff and they were clearly too busy to take orders. I felt sorry for them. Hopefully better experience next time.

Flying Fajita Sistas

Glebe

Carmen dined on Wed, 30th Dec 2015 (8)

We had the chicken Fajita and Fish, Pork Belly and Chicken Taco's. Servings were generous and ingredients were fresh. For dessert we had the chocolate pistachio brownie which was delicious. Service was excellent. Great venue for a small group catch up as you can nibble and share.

The Colonial Darlinghurst

Darlinghurst

Carmen dined on Sat, 17th Oct 2015 (6)

Went to Colonial after seeing some good reviews on Tripadvisor. They were not very busy so we had excellent service, very attentive staff. The waiter there even filled our empty glass with another Sauvignon Blanc free of charge which was very nice. Made us feel very special. I noticed they had a lot of takeaway business but the restaurant itself was quiet, probably only 5 tables from 7 to 9pm so ambiance was lacking for a Saturday night. The food is ok, the Tandoori Chicken Tikka tapas ($10.90) was good value compared to the Beef Balti (a main $19.90) which was very small and beef was also overcooked and was tough to chew. We also ordered Khandari Ghobi which only had a few pieces of cauliflower and that was $12.90 so I thought it wasn't good value. Service was excellent, food was ok but on the expensive side for what it was. From that night they looked to be more popular for takeaway rather than dine in. I have had better Indian food on Cleveland St, Surry Hils.

Maya Da Dhaba

Surry Hills

Carmen dined on Sat, 26th Sep 2015 (7)

I live in the neighborhood and Maya was recommended by a colleague as a good place for Indian. The staff were very attentive and we were happy with the quality of food and the serving sizes. I will definitely be back to try other dishes. We had the Adraki lamp chops, Dum Chicken Biryani and the Chicken Chettinad. Overall a good hearty meal and a pleasant first visit.

Flying Fish

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Tue, 11th Aug 2015 (9)

This is my 2nd time at flying fish and the food never disappoints. We had the seared scallops for entree and the barramundi as main with hand cut potato chips with chili flakes and the leaf salad. Everything was on point and close to perfect. Service was excellent. It's on the expensive side however given the quality of food, the brilliant location (and view ) and the professional attentive service it's not without reason. This was for an anniversary and they certainly made it special with a great table & happy anniversary chocolate plate at the end. Nice touch.

Bar Cupola

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Thu, 21st May 2015 (7)

Great location for business lunch or catching up with friend as seating is comfortable and it's not noisy.

Mordeo Bistro & Bar

Sydney CBD

Carmen dined on Tue, 31st Mar 2015 (7)

Had the market fish of the day which was crispy skin barramundi with Lentils & Quinoa. Cooked well& a good dish. Probably bit on the pricey side but at least main was good.

Cafe Del Mar

Darling Harbour

Carmen dined on Fri, 1st Aug 2014 (9)

Staff were really friendly and attentive. Although the price of the meals were on the high end, the portions were very generous which justified the prize as some other restaurants I've been to have left me hungry (for the same price)! The share mains (we had the lamb & chicken) were cooked to perfection and was plenty between 4 people. We also had 3 starters to share between 4 people (Octypus, Snapper Tartare and the Jamon with tomato bread were all excellent and a must try. All were generously portioned. Overall a really great experience.

Carmen hasn't selected a top 10 yet.
