Red Cabbage

South Perth

Carolyn dined on Fri, 27th Apr 2018 (7)

We arrived early to avoid the busy session. We were seated outside in an enclosed outdoor area but the music was so loud it totally spoilt the atmosphere. They did turn the volume down for me. We still had to wait 40 min for our first course to arrive. Both dishes were luke warm to cold but were told after mentioning this they were suppost to be -which we found odd. Cold chicken patty roll ? Cold seared scallops? The mains were served hotter at our request but were still told since the food is always rested dont expect them to be that hot either. The mains when they arrived were warmer and delicious .The place got busy really quickly as they were doing a special priced degustation offer in April. Glad we arrived early.!! All in all the food presentation was fantastic and the flavours lovely but I do have an issue with the food temperature as I like my meal hot .

Petite Mort

Shenton Park

Carolyn dined on Fri, 15th Dec 2017 (9)

Food was beautifully presented..we had the degustation and this consisted of about 9 dishes that came out as quickly as you wanted. The wine selection this time was limited and the choices were very expensive. We ended up having to pay $135 for a bottle of red wine as the few cheaper ones were not known to us so this raised the cost considerable. This aside, the food was most memorable.

Stable Hands

Carolyn dined on Fri, 15th Dec 2017 (7)

They have some nice ideas on their menu but not enough choices..having been there once before we were struggling to have something different. The Whiting in paper bark was nice , the service was attentive and I think this place would appeal to people who work nearby to go for drinks and something to eat. I wish them luck as the staff are certainly motivated to make a success of this place.

Stable Hands

Carolyn dined on Mon, 9th Oct 2017 (7)

Staff were very friendly and described the dishes as share dishes..there were only 2 of us..some dishes were small , some large depending on the price . We chose 3 dishes and they were all very nice except they came out pretty much all at the same time so the table was full and food went cold quickly.I think the Chef needs to give diners a space between each one as all 3 were main meal size . Basically we felt rushed and had only just got through 1/3 of our bottle of wine before all 3 dishes were sitting on the table all at once...this would be perhaps my only criticism as the food tasted great and presentation very original.

Vasse Felix

We havent been for awhile and the last time we were impressed by the asian fusion menu. This time we thought that they had limited the number of dishes in each course a to make it a lot simpler for the kitchen .3 or 4 choices in each coarse only. The pork dish I chose was quite fatty throughout but the lamb was good and both mains were well presented but lacked the wow factor that we were expecting. I was also quite surprised to be served by a wait staff with piercings that included a nose ring as I dont think that matches the caliber of the restaurant and prices charged...also another seemed inexperienced and quickly removed my wine glass when we still had 1/3 of our wine still left in the bottle that they take away and leave on the side table. So somewhat disappointing we think compared to the service and menu choices that other restaurants in the area offer .

Limones Cafe & Restaurant

Carolyn dined on Sat, 30th Sep 2017 (8)

Nice local family bistro/restaurant serving tasty food. Staff were very attentive. Very popular venue going on the number of table bookings starting at 6.30pm on Saturday night. Steak was cooked beautifully.

Carolyn dined on Thu, 28th Sep 2017 (8)

We were very impressed by both the wine list and the freshness of the seafood. The service was attentive and friendly. Would definitely return here again for another quality meal in the future.

Opus Restaurant

Perth CBD

Carolyn dined on Fri, 7th Jul 2017 (8)

Lovely venue , food is typically small servings. We enjoyed our Tiger Prawn Entree. I had the Rabbit..I did find it too salty but beautifully presented. My husband had the Barramundi...he enjoyed it but thought the portion somewhat small. I think the grilled steaks looked great and he would choose that next time. The Brocolini with almonds were perfectly cooded. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly and the surrounds were sophisticated. It would be a great meeting place also for a light lunch as its in the business area.

Sono Japanese Portside

Carolyn dined on Fri, 23rd Jun 2017 (8)

Enjoyed our experience but would have been far better if we had been given a window seat because I booked 3 months before and that should have been given...they said I needed to "request" it but I would have thought they would have given me one of the best seats for booking so far should go without saying !!!! Ah well , this was our only negative for the evening. Staff serving were attentive and very sweet.

Voyager Estate

Margaret River

Carolyn dined on Mon, 15th May 2017 (9)

Always a pleasure to return to this lovely winery restaurant. Claire the wine sommelier, was on hand to explain her thoughts on the numerous chardonnays available and her recommendation was fantastic. The staff are always attentive. The degustation menu allows for dietary changes so when booking just mention what your needs are as once there the menu offers 4 dishes with no choices and its good to let the chef know in advance. Looking forward to our return visit.

Piari and Co

Carolyn dined on Fri, 12th May 2017 (7)

New owners which was a bit of a surprise. The restaurant is normally buzzing but on the Friday night when we arrived there were only only 2 other people dining. The new Chef made an effort to present some very nice entrees..quite innovative. For main meal I had the Cod which I found lacked flavour and had me reaching for the salt and pepper to jazz things up. My husband really enjoyed his beef cheek pasta. Good rich comfort food. They are now not allowing byo so that may account for the lack of numbers. Hopefully these new owners will find their pace and start generating the crowds as some of his ideas are good . Maybe byo with corkage would help like the last owners allowed.

Watershed Winery

Margaret River

Carolyn dined on Sat, 15th Apr 2017 (8)

There has been changes to their menu since our last visit.. No longer available is the tasting plate entree to share nor the tasting plate dessert ...shame as I looked forward to these. Choices now are quite limited. For entree I chose the prawn dish..absolutely delicious but was disappointed that only 1 large prawn was served for the price charged. The Barramundi for mains was also lovely. Had we not ordered a side of chips we would have both been quite hungry. There was quite a long wait between entree and mains as well... All in all small serves, hefty prices but at least the quality is still there. Would recommend for a special occasion.

Hermosa Cantina

Carolyn dined on Wed, 8th Mar 2017 (7)

If was a pleasant enough experience for a first timer- like tapas style servings. Some were very good like the salmon and scallop ceviche but not particularly cheap for the small serving that was more like an entree size for $25 a serve . I thought generally the servings were a little on the small side , but after ordering 5 dishes we were well satisfied. Food was bought out in order that the chef decided and so our side serve of greens...snow peas and peas heavily flavoured with a garlic flavour appeared at the very end after about a 15 min wait..which couldnt be diluted with a main dish and thus was overbearing. I think next time I go I would order more a main course dish rather than small servings of several as the wait between dishes I can imagine on the weekend would be too long. Wait staff were attentive taking our orders .

Sweetwater Rooftop Bar

East Fremantle

Carolyn dined on Wed, 25th Jan 2017 (6)

We were looking forward to eating at this venue. The place is very trendy. A couple of the dishes we ordered were very disappointing. I was expecting the Pork belly to be 3 square pieces with a nice asian sauce. What we got was 3 little round buns with a slice of extremely fatty thick pork that was more like of a slice of thick fatty bacon. After removing the fat there was little meat content. The prawn dumplings did not fare well either. They were extremely dried out on top - making them inedible as we had to eat around it. Shame because the filling was nice enough . The Chicken salad and papaya salad were the highlight of our orders. The waitress was attentive but never asked us if we enjoyed our meal when she took our plates away and I found this unusual as most restaurants like to get feedback. I would recommend as a venue to share some wine or drinks with friends but I wouldn't go back for the food.

The Generous Squire

Perth CBD

Carolyn dined on Sun, 22nd Jan 2017 (8)

It was the night of a concert so booked early. Lucky we did so many people were not able to get a table on the night. Despite this the staff were very attentive and very friendly. The lobster patty sliders were delicious. The prawn pizza was fantastic with very thin crispy crust. I would highly recommend this place for a meal in the city eith a good classy pub atmosphere.

C15 Espresso

Carolyn dined on Wed, 26th Oct 2016 (7)

Great little coffee shop..comfortable seating, salad lunch was very good and nice dressing on the side. Will return.

Wills Domain

Carolyn dined on Sun, 25th Sep 2016 (9)

Had a fabulous degustation lunch..would highly recommend to book ahead as this winery is very popular all the time. Did not enjoy the cellar door wines but better quality ones are available at the restaurant.

Leeuwin Estate

Margaret River

Carolyn dined on Fri, 23rd Sep 2016 (8)

This restaurant is great for simple honest food. Nothing too fancy . Nice share boards. Wine very expensive on the restaurant menu. A bit of confusion in the kitchen giving waitress the incorrect description of the "fish of the day" and what arrived was not what she and we were told. Replacement dish was nice anyway.

Carolyn dined on Wed, 21st Sep 2016 (8)

Great atmosphere, big serves, reasonable wine prices. Looking forward to returning on a nice warm summer evening.

Heirloom Restaurant & Bar

East Perth

Carolyn dined on Tue, 13th Sep 2016 (7)

Healthy food alternatives in the entree section like prawns on zucchini noodles and the salmon and avocado entree .Both these dishes were nicely presented and enjoyable..

Eat Greek Restaurant

East Fremantle

Carolyn dined on Wed, 7th Sep 2016 (8)

We went for the lunch special. The views were fantastic, the staff were attentive and upbeat. The lunch special would have something to suit most tastes and dietary needs. My mother particularly enjoyed her lunch ( which is a double bonus for me ) and we will certainly be back again. The fact that you can bring a bottle of wine and pay $7 corkage is a bonus as well.

South Bank

Carolyn dined on Fri, 12th Aug 2016 (8)

Excellent dining experience. Our 4 course degustation ended up being more like 8 courses with all the complimentary additions. Staff were extremely attentive and friendly.

St Kilda

Carolyn dined on Thu, 28th Apr 2016 (7)

We went for lunch on a mild Melbourne day. They were very quiet with only one other table of 4 present. They offered a really well priced lunch special but we wanted a la carte. The food was very nice and I will say from experience that at night it does get very busy .

North Fremantle

Carolyn dined on Fri, 15th Apr 2016 (8)

We had a gorgeous lunch there last week. They have 2 courtyard areas and a live jazz trio on Friday night. The food is tapas small dishes styles and so we enjoyed the hands on sharing experience . The grains salad , and the cauliflower dishes were great and eggplant dip is always my favourite dish.

Carolyn dined on Thu, 31st Mar 2016 (8)

Had the seafood platter. Generous serving. We enjoyed our wine as well. Will definitely return as the atmosphere is casual and buzzy.

Carolyn dined on Wed, 16th Mar 2016 (8)

Dux Cafe Restaurant

Food was great, everything was presented beautifully. I would go back here at the drop of a hat! Well done to staff and Chefs for presenting food that was above average in all aspects.

Watershed Winery

Lovely vista over the vines...Great entree and dessert share plates for 2. Quality food that was impressive. Wine tasting before the meal so you can choose your ideal bottle.

Great seafood platter and very thought out wine list

Lamonts Smiths Beach

Carolyn dined on Fri, 3rd Jan 2014 (7)

We had a very pleasant time at this restaurant. The food was very nice and the staff were very attentive. The wine list was good also because it had a bottles from several countries . I particually enjoyed the Duck main as it was a generous portion without the usual fatty deposits. I would recommend this restaurant to friends as it is always good to find something new in the area.

Mussel Bar and Restaurant

Carolyn dined on Mon, 11th Nov 2013 (7)

We had the seafood platter for 2 $135 but after the Dimmi 50% off discount this came down to under $70 . So amazing value . The quality of the fish and seafood was very good and everything was fresh. I would have prefered chunky chips on the platter instead of shoestring chips as they went limp very quickly. Nevertheless an enjoyable meal and lovely location in Fishing Boat Harbour I will certainly go back to try the fish of the day which looked good as well.

Carolyn dined on Wed, 23rd Oct 2013 (7)

If it hadnt been for the promotional food price I would have to say that this restaurant is quite pricey. Having said that, the food was really enjoyable so I guess you get what you pay for. We had the oysters natural..extremely fresh and moorish..followed by the lightly fried seafood mista...that dish was gorgeous and I loved the generous portion of fresh salad. The presention of this dish was fantastic. My husband certainly enjoyed his rib eye saying it was juicey and tender. I would certainly go back just for that seafood was so very fresh..well done for making sure you use quality ingredients.!

Carolyn dined on Mon, 17th Jun 2013 (7)

Notable Dishes :The Scallops served with lemony Risotto entree was really lovely as was the Terrine of Duck. Fish of the day was served on similar Risotto so it was a bit boring...perhaps another base would have been more inventive The Prawn Linguine would have benefited if something other than 5 prawns were added to a whole plate of tomato linguine... The flavour was very nice though. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were very attentive. I would definitely return for the next seasons offerings.

Bouchon Bistro

Carolyn dined on Tue, 23rd Apr 2013 (6)

Food was nice, atmosphere was romantic...a place to take a first date to impress. Fairly expensive $19 entrees , $39 mains...whereas wine prices reasonable.

Carolyn hasn't selected a top 10 yet.
