The food and service were pretty disappointing at the Barvarian Bier Cafe, though wine and beer selection was pretty good. Somewhere that is better for a drink than a meal, though having said that it is best among the dining options at the Entertainment Quarter.

We love Efendy at Rozelle, and Anason, the sister restaurant in Barangaroo, does not disappoint. Fantastic food - we loved the tarama and octopus in particular - and wonderful selection of mainly Turkish wines.

El Phoenician in Walsh Bay has fantastic Lebanese food with a great wine list and extremely attentive and service. We loved their babagnaoush, pickles and lamb shawarma in particular. It is a great place for dinner before the theatre.

Really great food and excellent service at Mordeo. I had the chicken, radicchio, walnut and apple salad - my favourite. The service is very friendly and efficient, and the meals come out promptly, which makes it perfect for a workday lunch

We keep going back to Balcon for the amazing food and excellent wines. You can't go past the iberico Cebu, duck jamon and cabbage salad. Great service and the ability to book makes this an oasis in the CBD.

I was incredibly impressed with St Isidore - the food, wine and service were all incredible. We shared a number of dishes, the standouts being the smoked mussel snack, the quail and the incredibly tender slow roasted lamb. The wine list was really well chosen with some interesting choices, and great value. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly, and it is lovely dining space which facilitated conversation. I will definitely return and would love to count this as a local (alas we're based in Sydney).

Brasserie l'Entrecote has brilliant food, amazing service and a thoughtfully considered wine list. The entrecote is of course amazing, but the other dishes shouldn't be forgotten - they do a fantastic tartare, the duck is amazing and the desserts are fabulous.

The food and wine at The Govrenor's Table is fantastic - I had a beautiful dish of pork belly, asparagus and tomato with liquorice, and my dining companion had the kangaroo with red cabbage salad. Both were beautifully cooked, generous serves and delicious. The wine list has a considered selection of Australian wines, most from smaller producers and many by the glass. The only disappointing aspect was that the service was below its usual very high standard - we waited much too long for a glass of wine to be served (it seems the waiter forgot to submit the order), and as we were sitting outside we had to keep flagging down the waiter for attention. It wont stop us going back, but was disappointing when all our previous experiences here had been brilliant.

Love fish is amazing- fantastic quality fish , which is beautifully cooked, and delicious sides. We particularly love the tomato salad! Service is friendly, attentive and quick. And it's BYO. What's not to love!

Mordeo has really good food, with attentive, friendly and quick service. It is a great place for business meetings, and catching up with friends in the city over lunch. I had the chicken salad with radicchio, walnuts, apples and grapes - delicious.

Nazimi is a real find - fantastic Japanese right in the middle of the Sydney CBD. Beautifully fresh sashimi, friendly service, and BYO. We've been a few times now and would highly recommend!

We've been to Brasserie l'Entrecôte a few times now, and the food, wine and service have been brilliant each time. On our most recent visit, we had oysters and steak tartare for entree, followed by the entrecôte and duck. The quality of the food is excellent, and it is beautifully presented. The restaurant is a lovely open space, with lots of natural light, and tables are not too close, so you can have a conversation without having to shout. The waiters are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. The wine list has a really interesting, well chosen selection of predominately French wines, many of which are available by the glass, pichet or carafe. Pymble is lucky to have such a fantastic new restaurant in Brasserie l'Entrecôte.

Amazing Japanese food in a little unassuming restaurant on York St right near the QVB. The food was top quality, especially the sashimi. Service was friendly, quick and attentive, and it is BYO. Excellent value. Will definitely be back!

The food, service and wine at The Governor's Table are always excellent. The butter poached chicken with baby carrots was a stand out dish - the chicken was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. They have a great, primarily Australian wine list. We really enjoyed the Spinifex Grenache Cincaut. The prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of the food and wine, and the service is always extremely professional and friendly.

Love Fish in Rozelle has amazingly fresh, perfectly cooked fish and seafood, with fabulous sides and friendly service. It is BYO as well, a rarity in Sydney. It's a fantastic place to have as a local.

The food and wine were fantastic at One Bent Street. We loved the chicken vinigatette, cauliflower and jamon iberico. The bread was also top shelf. And we had a spectacular grenache. The service was a bit sporadic - very attentive alternating with having difficulties attracting anyone's attention. And the atmosphere was very cool but very noisy!

The food at Ormeggio was excellent, though we found it a disappointing experience overall. The food came out much too fast, and we felt very rushed even though the there was not a second sitting for the table. We had to ask three times for the food to come out more slowly, and it was only after the mains that they finally slowed down. The wine selection was good, and the views lovely, but I did not feel it to be good value given the overall experience.

Sails at Lavender Bay is a very underrated restaurant. The views are spectacular, and the food and wine live up to the same standard. We shared the oysters and goat cheese entrees, then had the confit ocean trout and lamb for the mains. The food was beautifully presented with top quality produce. The wine list is well chosen, and quite reasonable value. And the service was really welcoming. Would definitely return!

Fix St James is the best wine bar in Sydney. The food is delicious and service excellent, and the wine list is interesting, with some excellent options. We had the beef tartare, and the skirt steak, both of which were wonderful, and a bottle of Salento Negroamaro, which was excellent (and a great recommendation from the waiter).

The recent renovations at the Hotel Palisade are excellent, there is a great bar area with a small outdoor section on the ground floor, and a rooftop bar. The food at the public bar was really enjoyable, with reasonably large serves. I had a cod, tomato and burrata salad with poached salmon which was lovely (though was served a bit cold, as if it had all just come out of the fridge), and my friend had slow cooked lamb with a pumpkin salad and flat bread. It also has a good wine selection. We went before going to a performance at Walsh Bay, which worked really well.

The food at Efendy is always superb. Last night we shared the pomegranate and capsicum humus, chopped tomato, sweet peppers, cucumber and walnut salad, and the lamb with eggplant and yoghurt. The flavours are amazing. We also had a few glasses of the Narince (a Turkish white wine) which were fantastic. The service at Efendy is incredibly friendly and professional, and the outdoor area in front of the restaurant is lovely for late summer dining. The only disappointment was that I didn't have any room to try more of the dishes!

The food at the Governor's Table was excellent as always. I had the snapper with lentils and asparagus, and my friend had the swordfish with eggplant. We shared a slow cooked zucchini and a mixed leaf salad. The fish was perfectly cooked, with amazing flavours. The wine list has an really well chosen selection of Australian wines that are reasonable value. The service was great as usual. Will definitely return.

Bistro Dom was brilliant, I can't praise Martin and the waiting staff highly enough for thief excellent service. We had a party of eight, and had arranged a surprise for the birthday of one of the guests, and the staff helped us pull it off. We had the five course degustation, and the food was brilliant. The courses were perfectly spaced, and really manageable sized so we finished feeling satisfied but not overly full. The highlights were the asparagus, kingfish and pork dishes, and a really unusual pre-dessert. We brought some wines with us and ordered a few more bottles from a great wine list. Overall a fantastic experience.

El-Phoenician in Walsh Bay is fantastic before the theatre. Really good quality Middle Eastern food, great wines by the glass and a lovely dining space. The service is friendly and accommodating, and they made sure that we got our meals promptly so we could leave to make it to the theatre on time - no mean feat as the restaurant was full and they were hosting a large function.

The governor's table has excellent food, wine and service. We shared a series of small plates, which were mostly based around fresh, seasonal vegetables. They were all perfectly balanced with wonderful flavours. There is a great selection of wines by the glass, and the service is very friendly and professional. Can't recommend highly enough.

I'd not been to Rubyos for years, and enjoyed the meal before seeing a show. The service was very prompt and we enjoyed the food, even if it was a pretty eclectic mix of dishes. There were some lovely wines by the glass. I didn't feel like it was excellent value, but an enjoyable meal nonetheless

Ajo at the Welcome Hotel produces exceptional food that is of a very high standard. We shared all the dishes, starting with the swordfish with beetroot and grapefruit puree, followed by the special of sardines with a fennel and blood orange salad. Both were fantastic. For main we shared the spatchcock - such an amazing dish with smoky flavours and a mustard sauce. The service at Ajo is always excellent - very professional and friendly.

We stopped at Leura Garage for lunch when driving back to Sydney from Orange. I had the winter root vergetable salad, which was really tasty, and my husband had the pulled pork bun, which was great. Service was friendly, prompt and accommodating. We sat outside in the sun, which was lovely given the beautiful spring day.

The food at Racine was fantastic - really interesting flavours and well executed dishes. The wines were also a lovely selection from local wineries. Unfortunately the overall experience was let down by somewhat patchy service - too few staff who were under stress and occasionally forgetful. The music was also too loud (even after we asked if it could be turned down), which detracted from the ambiance.

The food at Ajo is brilliant - amazing flavours, perfectly cooked, and using beautiful fresh produce. We shared sardines and zucchini flowers to start, followed by the smoked spatchcock, which was brilliant. The wine list at Ajo has an excellent selection of Italian wines and some interesting wines by the glass. The service is attentive and friendly. This is the fourth time we've been and we'll definitely be back again!

Love Fish is one of my favourites in Rozelle - beautiful fresh fish, from sustainable sources, and perfectly cooked. The sides are always interesting and really tasty. We had the cabbage salad, the pickled radish salad, and polenta chips. Love Fish has a really well selected wine list, though is also BYO. The service is always efficient and friendly, and the food comes out quickly. Can't recommend highly enough.

We've been to the Governor's Table a few times for dinner and thought the food was excellent. We came back today for lunch and our conclusion was the same - amazing flavours and fresh ingredients. It is a great choice, and very welcome in a location that tends not to have options that are very touristy, or otherwise very expensive fine dining. Will definitely come back again.

This is the second time I've been to the Governor's Table and I will definitely be going back. The food is a fantastic standard, and good value with mains around $35. The standout dish for me was the spatchcock - such amazing flavours and perfectly cooked. Though others in our group had the pork belly salad, 10 hour lamb, T-bone and snapper, and all the dishes were really well executed. The wine list is well chosen - we enjoyed the Stefano Lubiana Chardonnay, the SC Pannell GST, and the Joseph Chromy Botrytis Riesling, all of which were excellent. Highly recommend.

We had a brilliant meal at the Ajo restaurant at the Welcome Hotel. The food, service and wine list were all top shelf. For me, the stand out dish was the deboned, smoked spatchcock. Amazing flavours and beautifully cooked. Would definitely go back!

The Governor's Table is quite a new restaurant, and it is doing some fantastic things. Two of us dined and we shared four small plates - we started with seared kangaroo with pickled beet roots and horseradish, and asparagus with Parmesan custard. The kangaroo was rare, and incredibly tender, and the asparagus perfectly cooked. We then had the lamb ribs with eggplant, Labne and pomegranate - the ribs were falling off the bone - and a cherry tomato salad with pumpkin aioli and chia seeds. Beautiful flavours. To finish we shared a perfectly ripe washed rind Jensens red cheese which was perfectly runny. The wine list was well selected with a few nice older bottles as well. And the service was friendly, prompt and helpful. We'll definitely be going back.

Sails at Lavender Bay was brilliant - the food was perfectly executed, with amazing flavours. Three out of the five people in our party had scallops for entree, which were served with jamon and pea puree. They were gorgeous. For mains, I had the salmon with calamari, chorizo and piquillo peppers, which was brilliant. Salmon was medium rare with a perfect crispy skin. My husband had the pork belly which was great. The wine list was well chosen, and good value. The wine and food alone would have been sufficient to make me want to come back again; the spectacular view really topped the night off. Highly recommend.

Restaurant Arras has impeccable food - we had the five course kitchen menu with an additional cheese course - which we had with a series of perfectly matched wines. The lamb with leek stood out which was served with a brilliant Bannockburn 1314 AD Pinot Noir. The chocolate minestrone dessert was wonderful and the petit fours make you feel as if you're in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The service is incredibly attentive and personalised. We went on a Friday night and were surprised that only a few tables were full. Arras should be more popular - it is one of the top fine dining restaurants in Sydney.

The food at Efendy is fantastic, with subtle and delicate flavour combinations, and dishes that are perfectly cooked. My one slight criticism was that it felt like we were being rushed through with the dishes appearing almost as soon as we had placed our order.

Love.fish has fantastic quality food, and friendly, attentive service. Being BYO is another attraction. It's menu is a great format: choose the fish, then select the sides and sauces you would like. The spinach, roast tomato and lemon ricotta salad is one of my favourites, and the mackeral in particular was delicious last night, so fresh and perfectly cooked.

The food at love.fish is top shelf - perfectly cooked fish and interesting, well executed sides. The service is attentive, and it is great value. The fact it is packed even on a Monday night is a trstiment to the fact they have the perfect combination.

Love Fish in Rozelle has a simple menu - choose your fish, choose your sides and you have dinner. The fish is always fresh, and perfectly cooked. The sides are innovative, interesting and delicious. Add to this a small but well selected wine list, a series of delicious entrees, and from what I understand a great selection of desserts (I never have any room to try the desserts), and you have a brilliant local restaurant.

love.fish has a simple formula that works well - a small selection of high quality entrees, then for mains you choose the type of fish, and order sides and any sauces separately. The selection of fish is vast, and sustainably and/or locally sourced. The fish was cooked to perfection. There is a very interesting selection sides on offer, and the options we tried were well executed. The staff at love.fish were attentive, which, when combined with excellent food and a great wine list (with mainly sustainable, organic and biodynamic on offer), made it a wonderful night out. I will definitely be returning.

We had a brilliant night at Arras, with amazing food and wine, outstanding service and a great atmosphere. We decided on the five course kitchen menu with matched wines, which came with two amuse bouche and petit fours. The food was innovative, expertly prepared, perfectly executed and beautifully presented. Standouts were a dish of prawns with grapefruit and artichoke, lamb with sous vide pumpkin and amaranth, and the finale, the petit fours. Unfortunately we did not have room for the cheese, which looked spectacular. We're planning to return to try that! What really made the night was the hospitality of the head waiter, who was friendly and made the night come alive. Highly recommend.

When the place is busier and there are more servicing staff, Le Pub has the potential to be a really good bistro in the CBD. The menu has a comprehensive selection of French bistro classics at reasonable prices, and the dishes were reasonably executed (though some care could be taken with the presentation). In addition, the wine list had a really good selection of French and Australian wines. However, the night we went the service was lacklustre at best and surly at times, the atmosphere left a lot to be desired with the bistro half empty, and the attention to detail was lacking (we were served the wrong wine, and dishes were mixed up). It might be worth trying on a Thursday or Friday night to see if with more staff and more people in the bistro the experience is a better one.
