Tango with Your Tastebuds This handsome little place set up at the end of a row of terraces on Charmers Street in Redfern prides itself on offering some of the tastiest South American food in the district. This being a converted house, you can sit in one of the quirky little dining rooms inside or, at the right time of year, you can take advantage of a balmy Sydney summer evening by taking the al fresco option and joining the vibrant street life of Redfern. Patagonian Toothfish has an exciting range of Latin American-style tapas including Pulpitos a la Plancha, which is char-grilled baby octopus marinated in tomato and barbecue sauce, as well as Croquettas de jamon, a creamy mixture of potatoes, jamon and Spanish herbs, rolled in bread crumbs, lightly fried and served with aioli. If you’re after something more substantial they serve a very popular paella, consisting of blue swimmer crab, prawns, squid, mussels, chorizo and chicken in saffron Jasmine rice. Best dish: Patagonian Breakfast.
