About Patagonian Toothfish

Tango with Your Tastebuds This handsome little place set up at the end of a row of terraces on Charmers Street in Redfern prides itself on offering some of the tastiest South American food in the district. This being a converted house, you can sit in one of the quirky little dining rooms inside or, at the right time of year, you can take advantage of a balmy Sydney summer evening by taking the al fresco option and joining the vibrant street life of Redfern. Patagonian Toothfish has an exciting range of Latin American-style tapas including Pulpitos a la Plancha, which is char-grilled baby octopus marinated in tomato and barbecue sauce, as well as Croquettas de jamon, a creamy mixture of potatoes, jamon and Spanish herbs, rolled in bread crumbs, lightly fried and served with aioli. If you’re after something more substantial they serve a very popular paella, consisting of blue swimmer crab, prawns, squid, mussels, chorizo and chicken in saffron Jasmine rice. Best dish: Patagonian Breakfast.

This was my second visit and I'll definitely be back for more. The seafood soup and Jamon croquettes were even better than I remembered. However it was the grilled seafood platter that stole the show with lusciously juicy octopus and squid in a smoky, tangy glaze.

The seafood was fantastic! Must-try items include the paella and seafood stew. We were amazed by every single item, not a common occurrence these days!!

Atmosphere is very intimate. Food was overall ok but not exceptional. Best dish: the octopus tapas was tasty and tender! Also the mussels were really saucy and hot! Worst dish: the mixed meat platter, the meat was very tough and the marinade didn't taste nice at all. Service was courteous but not know knowledgeable. There were only 3 meat mains on the menu, and the waitress didn't know what cut of meat they were! She came back from the kitchen saying "fillet" but of course it was not, as it was tough and chewy. This place is cute but it could do so much better...

We went for a friend's birthday and tried just about every dish on the menu plus had two of the delicious jugs of sangria - it was a quiet night for a Thursday and we were surprised because the food was varied, fresh and delicious . The inside is very cosy and quite quirky and the outside seating very comfortable but I think it would look more professional and classy if they were to wheel away the daytime fridge and breakfast menu to make the setting more dinner-style - other than that great service and would highly recommend
